Rory just ate lunch!!
I'm so relieved now. She's obviously feeling a bit better. She only had a few bites of Alphaghetti, and maybe 1/4 slice of bread with cream cheese, but it's a start!!! She still has a low-grade fever and is just laying around, but this gives me hope that she WILL bounce back and start eating solid food again with no problems. I was fearful the sore mouth and throat might have brought some of her aversion back, but I think she will be okay. She is going to do a transition day on Friday while I re-test at the stupid temp agency, and will start full time on Monday. That gives us a few more days to get her back on schedule. What a horrible week we've had. It's amazing how easy it is to worry about your los.

One thing this virus has taught me is that we HAVE to get some meat on her bones. If she ever had a serious illness, she'd be a goner :( This frightens me more than anything. Hopefully, since she's been starving all week she will have a new found appreciation for food. One can hope. Hope all the other sick kiddos start to feel better soon. HUGS

One more quick question about Hand Foot Mouth....she just developed a new blister on the outside of her mouth this morning...does this mean we still have a few days ahead of us before she kicks this thing?

Jessica, Mommy to Jedd, severe reflux, severe food and oral aversions, Finally G tube free!!! VSD repair 4-24-07 (open heart surgery), hypospadias, repaired 3 times and Ear tubes Visit Jedd at his CB site: www.caringbridge.org/visit/jedd
I would think if you still have blisters yes, you have a bit to go.

Have you let the daycare knwo she has it. I *think* they will NOT allow her to start if she still has blisters. They have to be blister free. At least that's what our pedi. told us. We asked for church nursery since Jedd's not in day care.

HFM is highly contagious. As long as she has sores I really *think* she is still contagious. I'd call the dr and ask.

HFM hung on with us for about a month. It just would not go away. Even thought I was spraying and cleaning everything in the house. I was even cleaning toys after he touched/played with them during the day to help.

YAY for eating that is sooo great!!!! I hope she starts to take off again for you. that is just wonderful news!!! WTG Rory!!!!!

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
I'm so glad she ate! That's a very good sign! I wish I could answer your h-f-m question. We dealt with that when I was still with the ped that didn't tell me much.

I don't know of HFM never even heard of it before now. I just wanted to say I am glad Rory is eating now! Hopefully she continues to eat.
Does she have any intolorence to milk? When my DD was younger she was under weight and her doc told me to give her ice cream after every meal and shakes and he also told me to butter everything. Not sure if Rory can handle either but it's just a thought. Oh, and good ol' pb and toast might help too if she is ok to have it.
Good luck! Hope she gets better soon!

Eating is a great start however little it is. I am glad. I hope all the blisters are gone soon. I totally understand what u mean about not having enough meat on her bones and fear of her being a goner in serious illness.

I am Jacky, mommy to Joslyn Olivia (April 2008) and Katelyn Isabel (November 2009).
Joslyn was dx'ed with Silent Reflux with breath apnea at 5 days old. VERY SCARY!
Katelyn is a spitter reflux baby. Started at 3 days old as well. (Both were/are breast fed.. symptoms came on when my milk came in).
Joslyn has been reflux free since she was 12 months (suffered poor weight gain for a few months) and Katelyn is now on Zantac... waiting to see if it works.
WAHOO for eating lunch!!!!!!!

GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(
That's great news...I'm so happy to hear that she s feeling well enough to eat. Hooray!

Michelle when Braddy had this 3 mths ago he didn't eat or drink for several days. I would syringe in liquids while he was sleeping. He was very attached to his bottle but after the hfm he wouldn't have anything to do with it. I tried pushing it on him but had no luck.

He would develop a new blister just as I thought we were on the downside. From what the pedi and brochure told us, they are still contagious and can develop new blisters for 3 days after their fever is completely gone. I know it started in the mouth but Braddy's worse was in his throat. The Benedryl and Mylanta mix Jen suggested ( I think) was a life saver for us some of the time. I would gently syringe it in while he slept and then I would do the liquid. There is also something called Magic Mouthwash that is a prescription from the Dr to help with relieving the pain. We did not use it b/c Bradden's weight was at the very edge of the chart. I felt more secure with the B/M mixture since it was safe for his age and weight. I hope she feels better and I'm praying for both of you.
