Coyle Eagan. One Year Old. Doing well on Cow's Milk flavored with juice :) Drinking two bottles of Go&Grow daily. Eating solids better but still have rough days. No More Silent Reflux-that I can hear anyway.. but puking again. Zantac 2ML 2X daily.
One Year Well Appointment
Are they ever well apopintments for our refluxers? Developmentally coyle is doing great. He can pull up; stand alone; get himself to standing from a sitting position; cruise; and push a walker. He knows 3 words and waves. he also plays with a ball; points and grunts; etc. etc. We are still a little concerned about his tone and the fact that he does use his let side more but we are hoping he will grow out of that. We'll see @ 15 mo.

Reflux sucks. Allergies Suck. My kid eat nowhere near what other kids do but the doc still wants him not eating @ night and keeping him down to 3 bottles a day. He also wants me to put him back up to 4ML of zantac a day to see if it will stimulate his appetite. He is puking again which I attribute to the milk-based formula and all the dairy he has been eating. He also has a horrible diaper rash-again from i think the dairy. But of course, no one believes my theory...

He also did not gain any weight in two weeks. So, we are stuck @ about 17 pounds 3 oz. When you consider his birth weight of 4.5 pounds then he has more than tripled.. but, if you compare to others... well, he is just so small.

these molars are killing us both. I can't wati for this teething to end!

all in all not a very pleasant appt. i was hoping for more weight gain :( but he did do well with the shots. in fact, he hasnt been particulary fussy nor has he slept.. i thought those were supopsed to make them tired!!

I am Jacky, mommy to Joslyn Olivia (April 2008) and Katelyn Isabel (November 2009).
Joslyn was dx'ed with Silent Reflux with breath apnea at 5 days old. VERY SCARY!
Katelyn is a spitter reflux baby. Started at 3 days old as well. (Both were/are breast fed.. symptoms came on when my milk came in).
Joslyn has been reflux free since she was 12 months (suffered poor weight gain for a few months) and Katelyn is now on Zantac... waiting to see if it works.
poor fella on the weight... but I think Joslyn will be about that when she gets to one yr old. But being so small at his birth that is really great weight for him!!!!!! Congrats on that. I would think the dairy is the issue as well. Diaper rash being a tell tale sign! Glad it was a "good" visit!!!!

Melissa - Mommy to Sebastian, born 9/28/07 @ 7 lbs 7 oz and 20.75 in. At docs at 12 months: 27 pounds and 32 in! Good grief! GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Neocate only - no solids - until further notice (drinks and loves water, too). Loves his doggie, our rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Louise, even though he is allergic to her. Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(
Aww, Kelly, I'm sorry that it didn't go as great as you were hoping. But you did gets lots of goos news mixed in there! BTW - my friend's preemie daughter who is 14 months is 16 pounds. She eats more than I have ever seen a kid eat (seriously, she ate a whole tin of those Gerber puff things in a sitting), but she is not packing on the pounds, either. But developmentally, she is doing GREAT, just like Coy. She was 3 lbs, 13 oz.

Your ped would prob not be happy to hear that I still feed S at night (just once) and that I have absolutely no intention of weaning him off bottles until he is eating a variety of foods. Dr. Wood doesn't even want to talk to us about switching off infant formula until 2008 because even though we introduce solids next month, we are only doing one new food every 3-4 weeks, so that doesn't make for much in the way of balanced nutrition.

THAT SUCKS about the diaper rash. Are you still going ahead with dairy? He seemed fine for a long time with it, right? What changed?

I can't wait for Sebastian to point! Right now he just sort of throws him arm up in the air like Hamlet but doesn't do much in the way of pointing any fingers.

Try not to worry. Your little man is in excellent hands with you.

I know what you mean about shots and making them tired. Don't you feel kind of guilty when you hope the shots would dope them up a little so you could get a break and they a much needed rest? Been there, done it too. :)

My previous drivers license was also stolen. The new one has extra security features on it.
Hopefully he will continue to grow at a steady pace. I think as long as they are growing slowly but surely, they are doing well. Meggy's doc tells us as long as the growth remains in an upward curve and doesn't flat-line or go down it is okay. He may be little now, but one day he may catch up or surpass his peers.

I never knew Zantac was supposed to stimulate appetite. It actually suppressed Meggy's but she does seem a lot different with meds than many kids.

Sharon, Mom to Elyse, 17 mos (15 mos adjusted-preemie). Zantac/Elecare. History of: Respiratory Distress Syndrome with ventilation/CPAP/cannula, tpn, n/g tube, PDA, jaundice, apnea, bradycardia/tachycardia, severe anemia, blood transfusion, reflux, Sandifer's Syndrome, intestinal malrotation, hemangiomas, MSPI, feeding issues. ICU inpatient 53 days! 2 surgeries, 2 UGIs, barium enema, pH probe, endoscopy. Developmentally on target now! PIC: Yobaby Beard
Good he did well with the shots. Elyse didn't get drowsy after her last ones either, at 12 mos.Maybe it doesn't work anymore after that. :) elyse's weight gain has been slow but steady for a long time now and she doesn't eat that much and drinks even less. But her cousin eats a TON and his weight is remaining steady right now. I don't think he has gained in a few months, and he doesn't have any problems. What's weird though is that he used to look huge next to Elyse and now he looks small (she is taller and he outweighs her by only a pound). What does the ped say about his overall gain?

Elyse can eat some dairy products without a problem but the one time she had whole milk she got a bad rash and has never touched it again. I wonder if the steady addition of milk-based formula is just too hard on his system in addition to the other dairy foods.

Weighs 25.8 lbs
8 lbs 11 oz at birth.
Recovered Chronic Projectile Vomiter
Prevacid Free since September 08
Egg allergy diagnosed Jan 26/09
Has a Pectus Excavatum
Has an Epipen
It actually sounds like an okay appt :) I'm sorry he's puking again and has rash, it never ends, huh? Listen, don't be discouraged if his weight plateaus in the coming did for us as well. Tripling birth weight is a fantastic accomplishment for such a little guy! I understand the disappointment of no weight gain. I'm surprised though that his doc wants him on only 3 bottles a day. Are you still concentrating to 24 cal? Anyway, we're also dealing with molars....NO FUN! Hang in there!!! LOVE the new pic!
