Susiegal - Son Charlie born 11/15/07, diaganosed with GERD at 2 months
Current meds: zantac, prevacid, mylanta, reglan
Is it silent reflux?
Charlie did a new thing this weekend. He started to do his usual vomit sequence, then nothing came out and he was noticeably swallowing. It was more like gulping. He did it half a dozen times then stopped. He was still bummed out but never actually vomited. Is this the silent reflux that many people refer to? Also, it is me or do others have to sign in repeatedly in order to be able to post? Maybe it is my work computer...

I am Jacky, mommy to Joslyn Olivia (April 2008) and Katelyn Isabel (November 2009).
Joslyn was dx'ed with Silent Reflux with breath apnea at 5 days old. VERY SCARY!
Katelyn is a spitter reflux baby. Started at 3 days old as well. (Both were/are breast fed.. symptoms came on when my milk came in).
Joslyn has been reflux free since she was 12 months (suffered poor weight gain for a few months) and Katelyn is now on Zantac... waiting to see if it works.
Joslyn is a silent refluxer...she gulps...... sounds like to me you have a silent one on your hands! Hey welcome to the club! hehe.

It is an interesting development. Charlie has had trouble gaining weight so I would almost welcome the silent reflux if he can keep his food down. But it doesn't seem to make a difference on the discomfort front...The optimist in me hopes that this is some kind of improvement for him!

Mary & Nicholas 7-17-03 (non-refluxer)allergies, asthma on Singulair and Flovent & Aidan 1-28-07(my refluxer)Nissen Fundoplication on June 20, 2008, FTT, MSPI, DGE, ear tubes, allergies and severe GERD now currently taking just Prevacid and drinking Elecare Vanilla 1+.
Well silent relux is probably an improvement in that you don't have to clean up vomit all day but actually it is way worse for their poor esphoagus' and pain level because instead of vomiting and only burning the throat on the way up now it burns it on the way down too which it now has the potential to do twice the damage.

yes, i would say that is silent reflux. poor little guy. mine has been a mostly silent refluxer while on alimentum. it was worse than puke. now we are back to a mix of both.. reflux sucks.

Sounds like it to me too. That's what Nicholas does and I do think it causes more pain burning on way up and down, but yes, they keep more of the nutrition. Just look at my little chunkster!!!

Yep sounds like silent reflux to me too. If he acts like it is bothering him, during the next episode, try to give some mylanta and see if that helps.

Seamus was diagnosed with Silent Reflux at 3 weeks. Now he is 14 months, on Prilosec and avoiding dairy, soy, egg. Still nursing. A lot !!!
The LOUD swallows can be silent reflux. is there arching during feeding? I have a silent refluxer and its so hard to detect at times. Good luck!
