Going to the doc today
Uuugghhh, Brandon's first cold has already turned into a sinus infection. I am taking him to his allergy/asthma doc this afternoon. They want to see him in a flare up. I hate that he gets a sinus infec w/ every cold. This is going to be a long winter!!!!

It sounds like you at least know the signs and symptoms and can get him in fast. I hope he feels better soon. Sometimes I think they should just put the kids on a continous antibo. IV or something. Too bad then you build up a resistance to it. Hopefully he has already strenghthened his imune system for when he is older.

Julie - I have three children. My youngest Katie is my refluxer. My first Ben was very colicy and is ADHD. My middle Jakob is pretty easy going. Katie had it bad as a baby no sleep for two years. She was on Nutramagin, Prevacid and Zantac. Thought we were through it but after age three it came back big time. After her scope she was put on Prevacid 45mg a day and mylanta as needed. Scope was in Sept. Showed damage in stomach and espophogus. It took about 7 months of medication and Reflux diet for her to start feeling better.
Katie's colds always turned into sinus infections. I would have so many arguments with the doctor because they wouldn't prescribe anything until it turned into an infection. I'm like, I am going to be back here in two days with a sinus infection. No sympathy from the docs.

I am also bummed it is almost time for all the viruses and bugs - ugh.

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
Is there such a thing as tubes for their sinuses. J/K I wish you could be free of those and I pray the ear tubes work for us too.

Poor guy! I hate it that it always turns into a sinus infection - I feel your pain on that one. Hope the allergist is able to do something to help him.

Hi! Sorry to hear Brandon is sick already...it is way too early to be dealing with nonsense...we have a long winter ahead of us :) I wanted to suggest you might want to also see an ENT. Our son had chronic sinus infections for two years. Our allergist was at his wits end with trying to figure out what to do with Max and referred us to an ENT. The ENT did a cat scan and found moderate to significant junk in all his sinuses. He prescribed a 6 week course of antibiotics because he felt that the infections were not totally being cleared with the traditional length of treatment. Long story short, the cat scan 6 weeks after treatment showed same amount of sinus junk. Our son had FESS surgery last winter and has not had an infection since. It seems that Max has narrow sinus passages so when he got a cold, it had no where to drain thus becoming infected. The surgery basically scrapes away sinus tissue leaving the passages larger and allowing for better drainage. Our ENT said he doesn't generally operate on kids less 8 with this surgery (Max was 3 at the time), but it was a miracle surgery for us. Maybe you should have some cat scans of Brandon's sinuses done to make sure the docs aren't missing something? Good luck - let us know how the appointment goes! - Patti

He indeed has a sinus infec. I just can't believe it-but I can. I think we are in for a long winter!

Thanks for the info Patti. If this winter is at all like last winter I will def have to keep this in mind!

Check with your
doctor first!
