Weighs 25.8 lbs
8 lbs 11 oz at birth.
Recovered Chronic Projectile Vomiter
Prevacid Free since September 08
Egg allergy diagnosed Jan 26/09
Has a Pectus Excavatum
Has an Epipen
Took Rory to ER tonight
She was totally miserable all day and had 12 oz in 24 hours, fever was going up and down with tylenol. She has Coxsackie (sp), blisters in her mouth, which explains why she won't eat or drink. They weighed her, with clothes on, still 18lbs 5 oz. I told the doctor I was concerned because she can't afford to lose weight, but he said just keep giving her tylenol and bring her back when she dehydrates. :( She went to bed at 8pm with nothing in her belly, she absolutely refuses to drink. He said it will get worse, too, before it gets better. Guys, I am so scared that this is going to make her regress with her eating. I'm trying not to get ahead of myself, but if I can't get her to drink tomorrow, she will dehydrate....she's only had 5 oz since 7:30 am this morning. I know it's a normal childhood virus, but I'm so worried. ....I had 3 people at the ER ask me if she had been a preemie, LOL.

BTW, the sheet I got on the virus said not to give advil or motrin....why is that I wonder? Anyway, I'm exhausted. Please pray I can get her to drink tomorrow. HUGS

Donnessa, mom to Halley born 3/10/07
Reflux (mostly) resolved at 14 months
and Addison born 8/17/09. Currently exclusively bf and on 7.5mg Prevacid
Oh no, poor thing! I'll definitely be praying for her. Could you maybe try giving her a popcicle? When H is sick and I can't get her to take anything else, she'll eat those. May feel good on her mouth.

My previous drivers license was also stolen. The new one has extra security features on it.
Will she use a straw? The liquid hitting the blisters may be painful. With a straw maybe it can be far enough back to avoid that? Not sure, just trying to help. Hope she feels better soon. How high is her fever? I can totally understand the not being able to afford losing weight.

aww poor thing, i hope she feels better fast i did a quick google search on Hand foot mouth disease and although i couldn't find anything that said do not use advil or motrin almost all of the sites i found said give tylonol or acetaminophen only. I know you are not supposed to give products with asprin in them to kids under age 12 b/c of risk for rhyes syndrome. I remember her weight and sickness just being brought up in your post about the feeding clinic, maybe now they will take this into consideration and take things more seriously... i hope!

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
The stuff I've looked at says give tylenol or ibuprofen so I don't know...it did say not aspirin. Morgan is a carrier of this and I was never told that. I believe Maggie has it on her mouth now too, but I don't know. The ent believes maybe it's from the antibiotics she was on.

I totally get why you're concerned about the food/eating issue. I'd def. try popsicles or anything you think she'd like frozen.

Also Morgan's never has gotten that bad. Maybe hers won't get too bad either. Hugs!

Jessica, Mommy to Jedd, severe reflux, severe food and oral aversions, Finally G tube free!!! VSD repair 4-24-07 (open heart surgery), hypospadias, repaired 3 times and Ear tubes Visit Jedd at his CB site: www.caringbridge.org/visit/jedd
Oh NO Michelle!!!! Poor you and Rory!!!!!

It took Jedd about a full month to get back to full tube feeds after getting hand foot and mouth. It was the worse virus he ever contracted. It was awful.

But, with Jedd everything took longer to bounce back form even colds.

I hope she will drnik some things for you. Can you try a mix of 1/2 formula and 1/2 [edialyte to keep her hydrated??? That's what we did with Jedd when he was ill with this.

I pray she feels better for you today!!!!! HUGS

Julie - I have three children. My youngest Katie is my refluxer. My first Ben was very colicy and is ADHD. My middle Jakob is pretty easy going. Katie had it bad as a baby no sleep for two years. She was on Nutramagin, Prevacid and Zantac. Thought we were through it but after age three it came back big time. After her scope she was put on Prevacid 45mg a day and mylanta as needed. Scope was in Sept. Showed damage in stomach and espophogus. It took about 7 months of medication and Reflux diet for her to start feeling better.
Gosh it always seems like there is something. I hope she gets through this quickly.

Would she take some liquid in a medicine dispenser (syringe type)? THis may get just enough in her to keep her hydrated.

I agree maybe a fun colored popsicle (dora mini popsicles) would work.

Hang in there.

Hand Foot and Mouth is HORRIBLE!!! I even got it a few summers ago after the girls. You can also ask for Carafate. I know some that say that it helps coat the throat so it makes drinking easier. One good thing is they say that once you get this if you contract it again it isn't as bad. Not that it makes it better now. ***HUGS***

When ds got this our pedi said to mix mylanta and bendaryl every 4 hr and give to him. You have to really put them both in the same syringe. You might ask your doc about this. The mylanta coated the mouth and throat and since he had the full body rash the benadryl kept that at bay and the itching. That was the worst virus! I even got it with him. We had 3 miserable days and then it got better. I hope it doesn't effect her eating when she heals!!!

Thanks guys. I have my inlaws coming in today, so I just popped in to give a quick update. We didn't sleep at all last night, but it was because she was starving. I managed to get some formula into her, although it took most of the night and early morning. She's up to 13 oz already, so I'm not fearing hydration will be an issue....eating food is another story. I'm going to cancel her daycare transition day tomorrow until I talk with the ped. I already had a weight follow up booked anyway, and she also sees the GP for her needles. I'll see what they say about when I can put her in...I don't want her giving it to other kiddos, and if she's still not eating and only sipping her bottle, I might have to postpone the transition to later in the week. UGH. It never fails. Thanks for all the tips and advice!! HUGS

Thanks for updating Michelle! I am so happy to hear that she's taken 13 oz! This is easier said than done, but try not to worry about the eating right now. I agree to that you may have to wait a little longer on daycare...Take care!
