My name is Stefani. I'm a mommy to two awesome kids, Aidan 03/02/06 no refluxer and Athena 05/28/08 the refluxer. I'm trying to figure things out.
What is the ratio for thickening
Thanks for the great info yesterday and the warm welcomes. Would love to know the amount to use with my dd's formula with rice? Thanks again

I used 1 tbs per oz. My son's formula had to be extremely thick though. I found better results with the thickening powders you find at the drugstores. My son could not tolerate the rice or any cereal so this did not tear his belly up. HTH

PICTURE: Aubrey in her cute cat outfit. If you look you can see how her right foot turns in. She walks that way as well. It is not as exaggerated in the morning's but gets worse in the evenings. This was after her nap.
I would think you would need to ask your pedi or GI. It depends on how thick your child needs the formula and for what reason you are thickening.

Everyone does it differently...usually the dr will give you a ratio to start with, and then you change it up as needed.

This is our dd, Alessandra. Dx with GER 10/07. Ran the gamut with meds and now done with them (crossed fingers). Using magnesium, probiotics and prebiotic supplements. With the exception of teething and general sassy attitude, all is well now. They really CAN grow out of it!
I agree with everyone about asking your MD. We were on 3 tsp oatmeal/oz for the longest time, which makes it like concrete.

Just a note, if your dd has constipation or gas issues, maybe ask the MD about skipping rice and going to oatmeal. Rice seems to be tough for some of these little ones.

Definitely check with the MD. We did 1 tsp per one ounce formula rice cereal. We are now on our first day trying thickening with Simply Thick. I'll let you know how it goes. So far so good, but it's only been like 12 hours.
