Tracey, mom to Katie. Diagnosed with reflux at 3 weeks and put on Zantac. At 8 months old she was removed from Zantac as it was giving her migraines, currently on Prevacid. Switched to Elecare since she is not gaining weight; trialing solids after being off for a month. Geneticist said reason she isn't gaining weight is she is stubborn. Upcoming appts.: Neurologist for developmental delay and EGD scheduled for September. She is one funny baby!
Most irritating sounds in the world

I have never been one of those people who desired to hold every ones baby. I didn't really baby sit with the exception of one toddler who was only awake for half and hour while we watched he going to bed video and then she slept. I knew while pregnant that my greatest challenge to being a mother is the fact that a crying baby is worse than nails on a blackboard to me. We bought a house down the street from my parents while I was 7 mos. pregnant and on more than one occasion I have taken Katie to my mom so that I could walk around the block and cry after listening to her cry non-stop all day. She got better for a while, then got worse then switched to Prevacid and once it took effect it worked wonders and she stopped crying. Today is not a good day for her. I gave her Prevacid and that helped for awhile, so I gave her Tylenol and that helped for a while so I gave her mylanta and put her to bed. I am not a huge drinker, never have been but it is a bad day when I have an ounce of wine with my turkey sandwich at lunch. As soon as I put my darling crying baby to bed the new neighbors d*** dogs started barking! That has to be the second most annoying sound in the world!! I closed my front door and put on my headphones to listen to The Peoples Court on TiVo and could still hear that blasted dog barking!! I have refrained from putting a threatening note on their door about the usefullness of rat poison in making dogs stop barking; not that I would poison them but hoping that the threat works. But I know that they would canvas the neighbors and they would all say that the couple with the baby can't stand noise and I would be arrested and have to spend the night in jail with women who would cry and then bark like dogs. So I drank my ounce of wine and posted to you all in this long post about the noises that I hate. Thanks for listening and please don't turn me into the thought police. ;P

Melissa - Mommy to Sebastian, born 9/28/07 @ 7 lbs 7 oz and 20.75 in. At docs at 12 months: 27 pounds and 32 in! Good grief! GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Neocate only - no solids - until further notice (drinks and loves water, too). Loves his doggie, our rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Louise, even though he is allergic to her. Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(
I think the real problem is that you limited yourself to just an ounce of wine.

No, seriously, thoug h- I am really sorry. That sounds awful. My sister had neighbors whose dogs bark around the clock, so she always tells me that she is going to poison them/shoot them/send them to the glue factory with Louise. They have woken up her daughter for years, and it is FRUSTRATING to try and have a life in your own home when someone's dog is barking. I have a dog who thankfully doesn't bark indoors, but I STILL understand.

I feel so bad that you have to use headphones all the time. She must be such a light sleeper. Sebastian is a light one,b ut nowhere near as bad as Katie (well, when he actually sleeps, that is). I am sure you have tried the white noise, etc. What we do is run the rain machine (nonstop rain sounds) on LOUD right near his crib, and then we put the fan on in the bathroom right outside his room. Sometimes, we set up the super-loud Honeywell fan outside his nursery if we really need to drone out some noise. Could any of these possibly work? I feel so bad for you guys.

How is Katie feeling now? I wonder what is going on with her today. I am really sorry because it sounds like things are especially tough right now.

Is Judge Wapner still on People's Court?

Julie - I have three children. My youngest Katie is my refluxer. My first Ben was very colicy and is ADHD. My middle Jakob is pretty easy going. Katie had it bad as a baby no sleep for two years. She was on Nutramagin, Prevacid and Zantac. Thought we were through it but after age three it came back big time. After her scope she was put on Prevacid 45mg a day and mylanta as needed. Scope was in Sept. Showed damage in stomach and espophogus. It took about 7 months of medication and Reflux diet for her to start feeling better.
Isn't there some law about constant dog barking? That is awful! We have always used the noise machine with Katie since she has always been such an awful sleeper. Works out well with her wild and loud older brothers.

I am sorry you are having a bad day. I know what it is like. Sometimes I would count the hours until 5:00 so I could chill with a nice glass of wine.

Reflux stinks because it is such a roller coaster. But we know that it will get better sooner or later.

Maybe she is just still feeling yucky from the procedure. Lots of gas gets into their tummies when they do it.

Hang in there.

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
LOL Melissa.

Well, if there's a thought police, I need to go into hiding! I have millions of warrants out for my arrest...trust me! Thankfully God is forgiving! :)~

I have neighbors that I can't stand and they have a yappy dog that they tie in the front yard. It yaps constantly.

Did you read my post the night that the city was having a concert? I called the police dept and asked "who do you call when you want to report the city?" I couldn't help myself, I'd had a bad day.

Yeah, we do an air purifier in Maggie's room but we still tiptoe around when she's sleeping and I definitely use headphones when I'm on the computer. Hope tomorrow is better!

Worry Wart mom to
27 mo. reformed "happy spitter"

Diagnosed A/R at 6 wks
Zantac until 1yr then Prevacid
Med free since February 08
peanut & egg allergies...still
Zoo Boo Trick-or-Treating (pic).
We have a humidifier that runs every night: water in it in the winter, no water in the summer. He doesn't hear anything. I keep waiting for the thing to dye. It's been on every night and most naps for 18+ months.

As a kid we had neighbors that had 2 dogs. They would stay outside all day and bark constantly. My sister was an infant (15 years younger than me) and her room faced them. They were always waking her up. My mom called the cops but they said it was during the day and they couldn't do anything until after 10:00pm.

I think you are doing the right thing by taking the baby to your mom's. Keeping your sanity is important and I am sure grandma loves to have the baby around to spoil. I hope things get better soon.

Jennifer - 1st time mom. Lauren (6/1/07) diagnosed 9/07 with GER at 3 1/2 months. Prevacid 7.5 mg in the am. Currently drinking whole milk and eating great!!
No longer aspirating! Yippee!
Picture: Why would Lauren play with the hundreds of dollars worth of toys scattered in my living room?!?! When she could play in a box! Estimated move date: Oct. 3rd!
Barking dogs is actually one of the reasons we are moving out of this house! Our neighbors have FOUR hounds. The Bluehealer is horrible. It can see a rabbit or a dear a mile away and just carries on for 20-30 minutes. I got rather vocal about their dogs anytime I would see them out and after a few snide remarks they got the point, sort of. They still bark, but not for a long period of time.

I also agree with Kmom about white noise. We have a fan that blows in the hallway for background noise. It helps with our noise around the house too, so I don't have to completely tiptoe around the house...

In the end I am sorry your neighbor's are buttheads and I have also seriously considered poisoning my neighbor's dogs!

Reflux (mostly) resolved at 14 months
and Addison born 8/17/09. Currently exclusively bf and on 7.5mg Prevacid
Tracey, I am SO with you! Let me add two more irritating sounds...our stupid neighbors two doors down that felt it was their god-given right to have a party (including four wheeling across our property) at 3 am. Or...the stupid people in the field across from us that started firing their shotguns at doves at 6 am last weekend. Yeah, I love to wake to the sound of gunfire.

Meridith, mom to Ethan born 4/23/08. Ethan was diagnosed with reflux at about 1 month. He has been on Zantac (unsuccessful) and Prevacid. He is currently taking 7.5 mg of Prevacid 2x per day, with good results. We also suspect MPI, though this hasn't been confirmed by a doctor yet.
Ethan is mostly breastfed, though we are doing one bottle of soy formula each day. We also do some homeade "solids' including, so far pears, avocado, sweet potato, and peaches.

I happen to have a little experience with noise ordinances. My hound dog used to get let out at 7AM, when I had to go to work, and he would always find a rabbit to hunt, so one day a neighbor complained because my hubby didn't get him brought in very quickly.
I found out that in my city, Kansas City, the noise ordinance, for any consistent noise, is that if you have talked to the person, then you can actually take them to court if things don't improve. This apparently goes for daytime and nighttime noise.
Anyway, you might actually check you city and see what the ordinance is. At any rate, I hope that Katie is feeling better tomorrow.

Melissa, I limited myself to the one ounces because it was 1 pm and I don't start seriously drinking until at least 3 pm. :)

We have a dry running humidifer since the humidity in our house is over 50% and a fan in Katie's room as well as running the AC fan on all the time. The little bugger will sometimes wake up if I take a shower two rooms away with her door, my door and the bathroom door closed! If I walk by her room in anything but cotton leisure pants she wakes up! She will usually put herself back to sleep but it can take awhile.

In our city dogs cannot bark for more than 20 minutes in an hour regardless of the time. I spoke with animal control last week to see what they could do and they suggested that I talk to the neighbors first. Yeah right. We did that with the parents of the loser teenage boys behind us and now they treat us like we called them the losers that they are. I did call in animal control and place a complaint this time since they barked for an hour and a half yesterday and 35 minutes today while the people were HOME!!

Thanks for letting me rant, it really helped!! Oh, and Katie started choking/coughing/gagging and then projectile vomiting 3 times tonight then acted like she felt better so hopefully tomorrow will be better! I put multiple sheet/mattress pad layers down in case tonight is a wet one!

UGH, I feel your pain. I live in a condo (read:attached to my neighbors like an apt). BOTH neighbors have dogs. On one side, they finally got him a shock collar after I laid for weeks on bedrest, then holed up with Elyse in the house for months, listening to him bark nonstop. But everytime we are outside we have to smell the pee smell coming from their yard and he still whines.

The other neighbors, actually 2 doors down, have 3 dogs who bark whether the owners are home or not. They are small "yip yip" dogs. They go on for hours.

My mom used to have to come relieve me everyday in the beginning because we almost never laid her down, even elevated. I slept about an hour a night (NOT kidding) on an armchair with her on my chest, always terrified I was goign to drop her in my sleep.

Oh, how I feel your pain! Except my problem is freakin' squirrels. SQUIRRELS!!! We have one patch of trees surrounded by oodles of apartment buildings and they taken over. They start chattering at sun up....and nap time is the WORST. The little buggers are insane. I mean, they're squirrels, do they really have that much to talk about???
