Noah 10/06 Reflux free for 1 year
Reid 7/08 Prevacid 15mg
Giving Prevacid
Hi...I'm back! I don't know if some of you may remember me. I use to be known as noahsmama. I tried to sign in, but I guess my profile is gone. Anyway, I am happy to report that Noah has been reflux free for almost a year now! Unfortunately though I just had another little boy, Reid, in July and he has reflux:( He was givin Axid first, but didn't really do much, so now he is on prevacid solutab. Noah had the powder packet, so this is new to me. I was wondering how others give this med. I have only given it once and I put 1/2 the tab in the syringe and then added water and waited for it to dissolve. The only thing is that some of it got stuck in the syringe. BTW the pharmacist said they don't recommend only giving half. Do others give half?? Have you noticed any problems?? Any help is always appreciated. Thanks in advance. -Jamie

Donnessa, mom to Halley born 3/10/07
Reflux (mostly) resolved at 14 months
and Addison born 8/17/09. Currently exclusively bf and on 7.5mg Prevacid
Hi and welcome back! Congrats on the newest addition :-). We had NO luck with the syringe method - same problems you're having. What we did was dissolve the solutab with a few drops of water until it turned into a paste and then scraped the paste off on her upper gums. Once she got a little older (about 4 or 5 months), we just popped the tab in her cheek and held it there until it dissolved. I know that Danie had luck with some special kind of syringe - hopefully she'll pop on here.

As far as splitting the tab goes, we just used a pill splitter and didn't have any issues. You'll lose a few beads every now and then, but nothing to be concerned about. The way I looked at it, if it wasn't split perfectly, Halley was still getting the rest of the tablet that day, so it evened out. HTH.

This is our dd, Alessandra. Dx with GER 10/07. Ran the gamut with meds and now done with them (crossed fingers). Using magnesium, probiotics and prebiotic supplements. With the exception of teething and general sassy attitude, all is well now. They really CAN grow out of it!
Congrats on the new one and YIPPEE for Noah being done with this! We did 1/2 tabs and 3/4 tabs for a long time - pill splitter worked fine. We did do the syringe for a while, but it does get gummed up in there. Even as young as 3 months we held the tab in her cheek and gave her a sip of water after to get it all in (or a little water in a syringe and dibbled it into her cheek)

Patti, mom to Max (3/04) with EE and chronic sinus issues; Lucy (6/07) with reflux
Congrats on Baby #2! We also had the same issues you describe. We did what Donnessa did and kind of squished it in her cheek. Not the best method, but it worked for us. Good luck!

I've been lucky~ I just stick the 1/2 solutab in his cheek and he sucks it down. He loves them. I split is with my fingers in 1/2, it may not be exactly right all the time but I can get it close and he is still getting 15 mg a day.

I guess I didn't mention that he only gets 1/2 tab per day. He is only 6 weeks old, so I don't think that I can do the cheek thing. I will keep it in mind for when he gets older though. Donnessa that paste idea sounds good...I think I will try that. Thanks all for the info.

I posted this same post when my little guy was the same age. We tried everything. It was so hard. What we did for a while was break up the tabs and put him in his mouth w/ a paci and they would dissolve. Our Pulmo did not like this idea. he was concerned about aspiration on the tab. Cooper did choke very bad on it once. At around 2 or 3mo, we started doing the capsules, putting the beads in a spoon of rice or applesauce. It certainly worked best for us.

I had it down to a science with the e-z dose spoon dropper ( a syringe you can get at the pharmacy). COngrats on the new addition, i remember you if Noah is the same Noah whose dad also logged on from time to time and I think he was on elecare? hard to believe I have been on pager for so long. With the syringe, I think I actually put a little water in a lid to a bottle (so it was a small area), dissolved the tab in there, then sucked it all up with the syringe and down the hatch! Sometimes it took a couple sucks out of the lid.
