I forgot to ask you - what were your symptoms before you had your GB out? What test did they do to find that it was the GB & not something else? Thanks! Ellen

TMI but you asked for it ;)
First let me tell you that everyone's symptoms are different. It depends if you have stones or a dysfunctional GB as to what your symptoms will be. I had stones and they found out through an abdominal ultrasound. The one that was still in there was the size of a quarter. The duct is like the size of a coffee stir so I was freaking out. He said I could live with it forever or it could come out, gets stuck and I'd have to have emergency surgery (ugly cut, week in the hospital). So I went the outpatient surgery route. **SYMPTOMS**in order of occurrence: nausea(sp); ache in my side/back on the right so sore/painful that I couldn't lie on that side or have anything touch it; the pain would then radiate up between my shoulder blades; bad indigestion that got continually worse until my stomach hurt soooo bad that I would vomit. My stomach usually felt better once I did; diarrhea but not always. I always felt like I had to but it didn't always happen. I am convinced I had my first attack when I was 5 months pregnant. ****The attacks lasted sometimes for 2 hours, sometimes for 6. I guess I was passing stones and it took longer for some to make it through than others. **I have 3 scars but then I am bad to make a scar. One about 3/4 of an a half to the right of my sternum and 2 half inch scars slightly below and to the far right of my belly button. I feel so much better that I'd do it again in a second.

Sorry, I forgot a test: They took my blood first to check my enzyme levels right after an attack (the next day). If elevated, that would have indicated that my liver or pancreas was the culprit. My enzyme levels were normal so the next step was the ultrasound. That's when they saw the stones.

The scars are from the surgery. Sorry I wasn't clear on that but you probably figured that out.

Hmmmmmm. Interesting. I have some of the symptoms, but have some different stuff going on as well. I guess it could be more of a dysfunction issue vs. a stone. I still wonder about the liver/pancreas. My brother had a bum pancreas at a young age, but his cholesterol was off the charts (mine is normal). He would never admit it but I think booze was involved there too!! I did have a bad attack last year but waited too long to get my enzyme levels checked. Darn, that could have saved me a lot of trouble. Thanks!!! El
