First time mom of Gershona; dx w/ GER at 3 wks on prilosec and simethicone
Update from Doctor
Thank you all so much for your comments and suggestions. In regards to waking GErshona to feed her, the Pedi Gastro Doc said not to wake a sleeping baby and if she is sleeping, not to wake her to eat, however, if she is up and hungry we can feed her in as little as 2.5 hours. She is on Prilosec now and not doing well at all. After feedings she is screaming for as long as 1.5 hours. It is so hard because we know she is in pain, but we can do so little for her. Thanks...

Melissa - Mommy to Sebastian, born 9/28/07 @ 7 lbs 7 oz and 20.75 in. At docs at 12 months: 27 pounds and 32 in! Good grief! GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Neocate only - no solids - until further notice (drinks and loves water, too). Loves his doggie, our rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Louise, even though he is allergic to her. Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(
If th ePrilosec isn't working after a week or two, I'd look into switching to Prevacid or another PPI. We had absolutely no luck on that medicine, although it is a miracle drug for some kids on here. Just something to keep in mind!!

Worry Wart mom to
27 mo. reformed "happy spitter"
34.8lbs , 37in tall(oct)
Diagnosed A/R at 6 wks
Zantac until 1yr then Prevacid
Med free since February 08
peanut & egg allergies...still
Zoo Boo Trick-or-Treating (pic).
I second that: get prevacid if you aren't seeing an improvement soon. Keep in mind that it takes Prevacid 2 weeks to see an improvement. My LO did great on Zantac (not a ppi) but it is weight sensitive. He maxed out the dose at 6 months and we couldn't get an increase. At one year we switched to prevacid. It took 10-14 days but finally things settled down.

Tracey, mom to Katie. Diagnosed with reflux at 3 weeks and put on Zantac. At 8 months old she was removed from Zantac as it was giving her migraines, currently on Prevacid. Switched to Elecare since she is not gaining weight; trialing solids after being off for a month. Geneticist said reason she isn't gaining weight is she is stubborn. Upcoming appts.: Neurologist for developmental delay and EGD scheduled for September. She is one funny baby!
Katie took 6 weeks to see an improvement and 8 before she stopped whinning or crying all day. PPI's do take longer than H2 Blockers. Zantac was immediate but Prevacid took a long time but once it worked she became a whole other baby.
