what i did
so this Emily tantrum thing has been really getting to me. it's a lot like the sleep thing; how do i do CIO if they might be in pain? Same thing I was not sure if the tantrums were related to AR/tummy pain or her just being a pain in the butt.

So Dh and i talked about it after i posted here and we agreed we would give her mylanta every time she had a "freak out" then try something like a "mad spot". and WOW what a difference the mylanta made. I ended up dosing her i think 3 or 4 times this past monday and the day went SOOOOO much better.

The whole week continued like this her (and my) days went so great, we had a few tiny, easily controlled "freak outs" but nothing to the extent of what we had been seeing over the past 3 months.

I can't believe a few weeks ago i thought she was ready to wean off the meds when all the while her tantrums may have been exclusively AR pain related, i feel so bad for not thinking of this sooner, stupid silent reflux!! poor emily...

Melissa - Mommy to Sebastian, born 9/28/07 @ 7 lbs 7 oz and 20.75 in. At docs at 12 months: 27 pounds and 32 in! Good grief! GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Neocate only - no solids - until further notice (drinks and loves water, too). Loves his doggie, our rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Louise, even though he is allergic to her. Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(
You did the right thing! I am glad you are getting to the bottom of things! Poor Emily...and poor you, too. I hope this passes quickly.

How much Mylanta are you giving per dose? We started weaning Abby over 1 month ago. First we just cut her morning dose in 1/2. We are now on day 3 of no morning dose. But she has also had a lot of tantrums lately. I might have to try this and see if it helps.

Julie - I have three children. My youngest Katie is my refluxer. My first Ben was very colicy and is ADHD. My middle Jakob is pretty easy going. Katie had it bad as a baby no sleep for two years. She was on Nutramagin, Prevacid and Zantac. Thought we were through it but after age three it came back big time. After her scope she was put on Prevacid 45mg a day and mylanta as needed. Scope was in Sept. Showed damage in stomach and espophogus. It took about 7 months of medication and Reflux diet for her to start feeling better.
Isn't mylanta the best! I think it works better then anything for soothing their little tummies.

Great idea! I do this when Korbin wakes up in the middle of the night. He will do this every so often and there is no reason that I can see for it. He talks great but has yet to tell me his tummy hurts. I think that is because he is used to some level of discomfort and that is just how it is for him. I give him mylanta and a drink of water and he usually goes back to sleep asap.

I agree, mylana is great!
