She's fighting me!
Jasmine has been fighting me on EVERYTHING lately...diaper changes, putting on clothes, shoes, taking the top off her sippy cup, putting it on etc... she wants to do everything by herself!! I can handle most of it, but naps and sleep are a different story. She is fighting me on that too and trying to get her way, ie: not napping sleeping. She is always tired now. I am going mad I tell you!!! Anyone have any good tips for an idependant missy....other than throwing her out the window??????

Oh yeah, she's testing me too. She likes to get on the couch and stand right on the edge of the arm. Of course I don't let her which puts her into a huge, end of the world tantrum....AGH!!

Chris: Mom to Rayna Marie our little miracle born June 13, 2007. 7lbs 12oz. Diagnosed with GERD after ph probe at 5 weeks. Current weight 21lbs 8 oz. Prevacid 8ml in a.m. 2% milk
Stand your ground mama!! If you give in once, it's all over!! My little princess gives me that defiant look when she stands on the couch, like she's saying "I'm standing on the couch and what are YOU going to do about it" But since I am and will always be the Queen of my castle she either sits down or gets down. If she wants to throw a tantrum so be it, I'm good at tuneing things out! Be strong!!!

Ahhh yes, power struggles. They are just expressing their independence. That's good because you want them to move out and get a life some day:) I stand my ground on the important stuff and let him win when it doesn't matter. The other part of this is they are like molasses on a cold day: very, very sloooooow. I take deep breaths and search my soul for more patience. Who knew getting into the car seat took FIVE WHOLE MINUTES, lol. I remind my self that I will look back on these things fondly when he is a teenager! Good luck!

I agree you have to be firm. I've been known to be the mean momma. You just have to show her who is boss. It can be hard cause they are so cute and give you the said eyes.

i think a large part of it is her age and another part is probably personality. Elyse is very strong willed and defiant, and we are so firm with her! She wants to do everything herself too, and throws a tantrum when we try to help. It is to the point now where I literally can't hold her or pick her up when she is tantruming. i have to let her do her thing on the floor!

My previous drivers license was also stolen. The new one has extra security features on it.
We are having the same thing with Meggy. Climbing the baby gate, using the broom stick to take things off the top of the fridge, kicking the keyboard, walking off the edge of the couch and much more. Sorry about the no nap thing. We have really never had good naps and it does make it harder. It seems you fight them 3 hours to get them down for a nap and then there they are popping back up in 30 min. It seems like the more we try to stand our ground the more defiant she becomes. Like with the baby gate, once she has her mind set on climbing it, there is nothing to change it. You have to remove her from the room and hold her. I hope you win the majority of the important battles. I think she is just testing her limits.

Melissa - Mommy to Sebastian, born 9/28/07 @ 7 lbs 7 oz and 20.75 in. At docs at 12 months: 27 pounds and 32 in! Good grief! GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Neocate only - no solids - until further notice (drinks and loves water, too). Loves his doggie, our rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Louise, even though he is allergic to her. Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(
Unfortunately, my solution is not much better - I have thought about throwing myself off my deck or at least into my neighbor's sticker bushes instead. Sebastian napped for 45 minutes this morning and then crapped the motherload while I was putting him to sleep in the afternoon, so that nap was obviously a dismal failure. So he was super fun this afternoon, let me tell ya. I feel your pain!!!
Check with your
doctor first!
