Formula Switch
Asking for advice. Our Pedi has us trying the *Go and Grow* instead of going straight to milk for balanced nutrition since Coy is actively refusing to be spoon fed and prefers to finger feed the dog more than he cares to eat! Anyway, I gave it to him straight-up this evening; that is, I did not mix in the alimentum. I tasted it and immediately thought "mmm, he'll like this".. ah, nope! Could it be just his basic instinct to be weary of something new? Should I try mixing it in the morning or keep offering it up cold turkey? What worked for all of you LO's? Thanks!

Our 1 year old daughter has silent reflux, hypotonia as well as benign external hydrocephalus. We are currently weaning onto whole milk (we'll see if it works) and she is also on Prevacid 15mg per day.
Keira did that sort of when I tried the Similac Sensitive so I mixed her Nutram and the SS for a week (one because I had to make sure she could tolerate it and two because when I first let her try it she didn't seem to happy about the taste even though it sure SMELLED better than the Nutram in my opinion!)

K, let's try this again. We recently tried to do the switch to toddler formula and Rory all out refused, even at one oz to seven oz, and then she boycotted regular bottles for hours after. I'm interested to see the replies. I would try to mix it first and see how he does. He might surprise you!! Rory will actually gag on her formula if it's in a cup, but drinks it like it's chocolate in a bottle?? I read that some kids with feeding "issues" are very reluctant to change things up. I wanted to second what Jessica said....If it doesn't go well, you can also stick with infant formula. We got the okay to keep her on concentrated infant formula to 18 mos. That being said, we've seen virtually no weight gain in recent months. Good luck with the switch!!!

Jessica, Mommy to Jedd, severe reflux, severe food and oral aversions, Finally G tube free!!! VSD repair 4-24-07 (open heart surgery), hypospadias, repaired 3 times and Ear tubes Visit Jedd at his CB site: www.caringbridge.org/visit/jedd
As one who did the big switch at 11 months. I wish I'd had waited longer. Jedd had such a hard time with next step formulas.

You can actually stay on an infant formla for 2 years. You just need to concentrate it to 30 cals and add in a multi vitamin. The rehab/feding clinic here told us to get Flinstone complete. something about the complete part has "extra" minerals and vit. you wouldn't get in the reg. ones.

I would talk to he GI about switching and see what they think over what a pedi. says anyday. JMHO....I would run it by them since they have more exp. in that dept.

Reflux (mostly) resolved at 14 months
and Addison born 8/17/09. Currently exclusively bf and on 7.5mg Prevacid
I thought for sure when we were ready to switch H from Nutramigen to milk that she'd love the milk (because the Nutramigen smells (and apparently tastes - I never tried it) like a**). She HATED the milk and refused to drink it. We started introducing it by swapping out a half oz of formula. We'd swap out an additional oz every few days. Now she loves the milk. Silly kids.

I posted to your pedi thread about switching to 30 cal. I too thought E would like milk or the vanilla elecare and she hates both! And the milk hates her too *sigh* Elyse is on rx multivits and we are slowly upping her to 30 cal

thanks. i guess this one isn't truly "toddler" formula because it is still 20/per oz. i think he wanted us to try this instead of going straight to milk since it gives him the extra vitamins & minerals since he's picky about solid foods. this morning, i mixed 2 scoops new formula to 1 scoop of alimentum and he drank it just fine. he had not had a bottle since midnight so that probably helped. i'm going to keep trying. so far, no extra vomit or extra diarrhea... still watery stools but that isn't anything new, kwim.
