Jennifer - 1st time mom. Lauren (6/1/07) diagnosed 9/07 with GER at 3 1/2 months. Prevacid 7.5 mg in the am. Currently drinking whole milk and eating great!!
No longer aspirating! Yippee!
Picture: Why would Lauren play with the hundreds of dollars worth of toys scattered in my living room?!?! When she could play in a box! Estimated move date: Oct. 3rd!
Augementin ? - OT
Lauren has been struck with a sinus/ear infection with a 103 fever as of Saturday. What a way to spend a long weekend, right? Oh well, at least she's home with me :) Anyway, we were prescribed Augementin and now she has horrible diarrhea. I stopped counting at 7 blow outs yesterday and we've already had 5 today. She even ate an entire yo-baby yogurt to try and keep this from happening. I had the pedi paged 1 hour and 15 minutes ago and still haven't heard back.

Is it wrong for me to ask for a different antibiotic? We've never had a problem with Amox or Omnicef...

Also, how long do you usually wait for a doctor to call back after you talk to the service???

Donnessa, mom to Halley born 3/10/07
Reflux (mostly) resolved at 14 months
and Addison born 8/17/09. Currently exclusively bf and on 7.5mg Prevacid
Poor thing! That happened to my nephew earlier in the year and it led to an awful yeast infection/diaper rash. Hopefully the pedi will put her on another antbx. I'd ask for a prescription for Vusion as well if he ever calls you back - it works miracles for antibx-related yeast infections.

As far as how long I would wait for a call back - an hour should be sufficient...I'd call again.

Augementin is horrible. I did not do well with it as a kid but figured i had outgrown it. just after coy was born i got a sinus infection and was prescribed this because it was supposedly safe for the both of us. both he and i had horrible, horrible diarrhea and it made me sooo sick to my stomach! i'd ask-defintely

It did horrible things to my ds as well. Aubrey had the blow outs as well, but we kept her on banana's everyday and her probiotics. I would def call the pedi back again and let her know what is going on. I would ask for a diff rx.

Oh poor baby! We have never waited more than a half hour for a callback. In fact, our service tells us if you haven't heard from the dr within a half hour to call in again. Elyse's drs have always called within minutes thank goodness. I know how rotten it is to spend the long weekend with a sick kid. Memorial day weekend E was really sick (one of her 10 day illnesses) and we have spent a LOT of holidays in the hospital (her or me being the one admitted). It SUCKS eating you 4th of July hamburger, etc in the hospital cafeteria!!

Well, I called a second time when it hit the 2 hour mark. I know we're not dying over here, but come on! I have never made an after hours call before, and am hoping that we fell through the crack or something...

The Nurse Practitioner called back in 4 minutes this time. She is "hesitant" to change the antibiotic because if Lauren's already reacting to Aug. then she'd probably continue to have diarrhea with Omnicef or Amox. She wants us to wait out the rest of the day and keep following the BRAT diet. I have been trying that, but Lauren's hardly eating and is not fond of Applesauce and hates bananas. So Lauren's been getting a lot of toast. I also got some more yogurt in her at lunch. If the diarrhea continues I am supposed to call back tonight. I just don't see that I can take her to the sitter's tomorrow if she's pooping every 15 minutes!

Thanks so much for all the responses! I wish the pedi would have just stuck with Omnicef or Amox from the beginning!

I would definitely demand a different antibiotic. Sorry to hear your little one is not feeling well. I hope she is better soon. I know the diarrhea rhelm is no fun and you have to worry about dehydration. Will she eat bananas or rice for the BRAT diet. Megan usually loves bananas, but she won't touch them right now when she needs them most. Megan has had Diarrhea since Wednesday. It started 2 hours after trying soy yogurt. YIKES! We usually expect a call back in 15 minutes but give them 30 before calling back the answering service. They usually give us a general time to wait for call back. Hopefully this won't last long. Wish you the best.

Melissa - Mommy to Sebastian, born 9/28/07 @ 7 lbs 7 oz and 20.75 in. At docs at 12 months: 27 pounds and 32 in! Good grief! GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Neocate only - no solids - until further notice (drinks and loves water, too). Loves his doggie, our rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Louise, even though he is allergic to her. Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(
I'm so sorry! Sebastian is allergic to Omnicef, so our only option right now for future sinus infections is Augmentin...it is supposed ot be 100% hypoallergenic...but as you know, NOTHING EVER IS. So sorry and hope she feels better ASAP.

Jessica, Mommy to Jedd, severe reflux, severe food and oral aversions, Finally G tube free!!! VSD repair 4-24-07 (open heart surgery), hypospadias, repaired 3 times and Ear tubes Visit Jedd at his CB site: www.caringbridge.org/visit/jedd
I *think* I Have the Answer..LOL
Jedd participated in a drug study for the use of Augmentum for a motiiltiy drug. They put 5cc's into a tube that was running through his Gtube sotma site and into his small intestines.

Within 15 moinutes YEP you guessed it he had a HUGE blowout. This continued about 4 times over the next hour.

That was on an empty belly as well.

So the answer is I really think that Augemtnum will be approved as use for Motitily issues in children in the futrue if what hapend to Jedd is any indication.

That's why she had that kind of a reaction to the Augmentum.

interesting... spin off this thread but does excessive pooping indicate good motility?

hehehehe....too much pooing is not a good thing..LOL

It can be a sing of a malabsorption or allergies or an intolerance....

That's funny.....I'm sure you already knew this...*hehehe*

i knew that too much poop could mean those things but i thought maybe that it could mean that in small doses it could get things moving, kwim?

yesterday, coy pooped 5 times. it was either a) a tiny sip of milk i gave him or b) the sip of pool water--hehe

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
Well, you remember Maggie's reaction to augmentin right? HIVES I'd get something else. My ped on call person says if they don't call back in 30mins to call back.
Check with your
doctor first!
