ethan's mom
Meridith, mom to Ethan born 4/23/08. Ethan was diagnosed with reflux at about 1 month. He has been on Zantac (unsuccessful) and Prevacid. He is currently taking 7.5 mg of Prevacid 2x per day, with good results. We also suspect MPI, though this hasn't been confirmed by a doctor yet.
Ethan is mostly breastfed, though we are doing one bottle of soy formula each day. We also do some homeade "solids' including, so far pears, avocado, sweet potato, and peaches.

I am Jacky, mommy to Joslyn Olivia (April 2008) and Katelyn Isabel (November 2009).
Joslyn was dx'ed with Silent Reflux with breath apnea at 5 days old. VERY SCARY!
Katelyn is a spitter reflux baby. Started at 3 days old as well. (Both were/are breast fed.. symptoms came on when my milk came in).
Joslyn has been reflux free since she was 12 months (suffered poor weight gain for a few months) and Katelyn is now on Zantac... waiting to see if it works.
hey, i have the liitle pooky in my arms now so if i type weird... please forgive me. we got back at 12:30.... feed ger at 1 and we both conked out at 2 and woke up at 4 when daddy called. here is the way it went...... we got there at 9:40.... did not get in until 10 ( her feeding time.) i had them weigh her, she was only 11 lbs 10 ounces. we were heart broken. that means she only gained 9.5 ounces in a month. so we were bumbed. i told them i needed to feed her and if we could weigh her following the feeding... so they said yes. i fed her..... great feeding by the way... and we weighed her again. are you ready for this???? 11 lbs 15 ouces!!!!! she got just shy of 5 ounces in her feeding!!! I have to say I felt so proud of my "twins"! So that made us much more happier! We thought she was only getting three ounces a feeding. When i pump during the day (not the morning pump.. an afternoon pump if I have to) I only get 3 ounces. (I get 7-8 ounces in the morning pump since I do not empty all night.) SO that was a great thing to see! She got her roto virus liquid and the pediarix (spelling) combo. We got back for the other 2 shots next month. The doc was fine with her weight and length (though there is a discrepancyon their measurement and mine. they says she is just over 24 inches and I say she is 26 inches. Her head is 16 inches. So sh eis in the 5% for weight (STILL) and 25-50% (their measurment... mine is 90-95%) and her head is in the 5% as well. HEr doc said she is prob just a petite baby but if she falls on her weight then we will have to look more into it. She bumped her up to 1 ml on zantac and said if we begin to fight a lossing battle on the zantac then to go back to prevacid. Nothing about taking her apnea monitor away so we did not mention it!!!!!!!!!!! We will not see a doc next month so we should have it next month too!! Thanks for asking! All in all it was a good visit... much better when we saw 5 more ounces went in her! (we still wanted to see 12 lbs...... so a little lower then we wanted. But I guess there is nothing wrong with having a 4.5 month old in 0-3 month clothing!!!!!!!!!!!! Poor thing! Jacky

Coyle Eagan. One Year Old. Doing well on Cow's Milk flavored with juice :) Drinking two bottles of Go&Grow daily. Eating solids better but still have rough days. No More Silent Reflux-that I can hear anyway.. but puking again. Zantac 2ML 2X daily.
hey there jacky, don't get too discouraged. keep in mind that the CDC charts were completed using all formula fed babies back in the 70s and i'm sure they were all healthy kids w/o reflux too! if you consult the WHO charts which were completely recently using exclusively BF babies she is actually in the 15th% or so for weight. and, the average weight gain for BF babies is 12 ounces per month so almost 10 ounces is really good. remember, it is an average and i swear they grow overnight! she might grow tomorrow.. who knows. i read another post of yours that said you're a small girl.. the important thing is that 1. she is growing 2. she is following a normal growth pattern. what was she @ birth? i can't remember...

I am so glad that you were able to have a good feeding while you were there, so that you could know how much she is getting with each feeding. I know that would help my breastfeeding confidence as well.
I also read that the growth charts were on formula fed babies, so it is okay for a breastfed baby to be at the lower end.
We will see how our visit goes tomorrow. I think I'll be able to be there when it isn't feeding time, but it will most definitely be grouchy nap time.

I agree, that weight isn't to bad. Cooper did gain his first pound until he was 2 mo old and now I think he is finally back on the charts between the 5-10th%. So, she can catch up. Also, keep in mind that a pump is never as efficient at a baby at emptying the breast, so she gets more than you think.
