OT- Ethan's First Meal
I just had to share this, since it was so incredibly horrible that it is laughable!
So, we were going to wait until after the pedi before trying to intro some solids, but I went ahead and made sweet potato puree yesterday and thought why not try. He seemed insatiable (sp.) yesterday, so I deemed him ready.
WHen dh got home, I started to finish up our dinner, while he was playing with Ethan. Pretty soon I heard Ethan crying fairly loudly, so since I couldn't remember when I last fed him, I determined it was probably hunger. I had intended to try them when he wasn't super hungry, but lost track of time.
So I tried to sit Ethan in his high chair, but he struggled against me, and I pinched his leg, so more crying louder! Yes, he was crying from hunger still, then I had to go and do that. So dh is figuring out my camera, and he can never remember how to turn it on, so in the middle of all of this, which I'm not even sure I need a photo of at this point, I am giving a camera tutorial!
We get Ethan in his chair, still crying, though less loudly. I hand him a spoon to hold, and try a taste of the sweet potato. Of course, it doesn't work because he isn't used to the spoon. So just to try to determine if he likes the flavor or not, I try to dip my finger, and give it to him that way. He is still crying, so really I know nothing! At some point during this, dh snaps a pic, which I'll have to share.
I get up to go fix a bottle, leaving dh with Ethan in the high chair. Ethan is screaming at this point, so dh is panicking and determines that Ethan needs to be evacuated. Instead of just lifting him out, dh takes off the tray, throwing an entire bowl of sweet potato to the floor.
Perhaps it is just my hubby, but if he is holding the baby, he cannot do anything else, so I am left to clean up the mess, while still attempting to cook dinner.
I expected the first attempt to go poorly, food on floor, food all over Ethan, etc. but I never expected it to go this poorly! I guess we get an "A" for persistence. lol I

I'm lol reading this. I'm sure it was one of those moments if you didn't laugh you'd cry! That's how I'd feel anyway. Yeah husbands haven't quite figured out how to multitask yet. Well my dh has gotten a lot better with the third one:) Hopefully next time will be better.

Well, I was finally able to get the pictures on my computer from last night, and apparently should have included a quick explanation of the focus feature in my tutorial! Oh well, it is clear enough for you to see how much Ethan enjoyed it. I love your new profile pic. I can totally tell he wasn't having it in the feeding picture! I really hope next time it goes better.

Tracey, mom to Katie. Diagnosed with reflux at 3 weeks and put on Zantac. At 8 months old she was removed from Zantac as it was giving her migraines, currently on Prevacid. Switched to Elecare since she is not gaining weight; trialing solids after being off for a month. Geneticist said reason she isn't gaining weight is she is stubborn. Upcoming appts.: Neurologist for developmental delay and EGD scheduled for September. She is one funny baby!

LOL!!! They say to make the first couple of tries very watery but we found the opposite worked. If it was too runny it ran out of her mouth before she could close it. I think by the third try she had it figured out and LOVED the food!

My hubby will expect me to get Katie a bottle, make dinner and get him something to drink b/c he is feeding Katie and can't move. I let him know that all day every day I take care of her, myself and the house. He then asks if this means I won't be getting him a soda. I ignore him.

I tried the sweet potatoes again today, and we had a successful meal. He even fussed when I was refilling the spoon. Because I am a worrier, I keep watching for signs of allergy. He has sneezed more today, so I'll keep watching. He however didn't vomit any back up, and I can't see any other signs of reflux. Katiesmommy, I am right there with you on the husband.
Check with your
doctor first!
