Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
Niece's baby again
My lil nephew is in the hospital again. I just wanted to ask for prayers, please. They are gonna do a light tomorrow morning to see if his lungs are ok (they may be underdeveloped due to her smoking the entire pregnancy and everyone else in the house smoking light chimneys). I'm praying it's just something to do with reflux or milk issues. He keeps having apnea episodes....many of us know all about that. Many of you more than me.

I am Jacky, mommy to Joslyn Olivia (April 2008) and Katelyn Isabel (November 2009).
Joslyn was dx'ed with Silent Reflux with breath apnea at 5 days old. VERY SCARY!
Katelyn is a spitter reflux baby. Started at 3 days old as well. (Both were/are breast fed.. symptoms came on when my milk came in).
Joslyn has been reflux free since she was 12 months (suffered poor weight gain for a few months) and Katelyn is now on Zantac... waiting to see if it works.
I will pray for that little one... may I ask why she smoked during her preg? Is that a touchy subject?

Melissa - Mommy to Sebastian, born 9/28/07 @ 7 lbs 7 oz and 20.75 in. At docs at 12 months: 27 pounds and 32 in! Good grief! GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Neocate only - no solids - until further notice (drinks and loves water, too). Loves his doggie, our rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Louise, even though he is allergic to her. Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(
Oh no! WHY DO PEOPLE SMOKE WHEN PREGNANT?? That is the worst thing you can do besides like crack or something. It is even worse than drinking. That poor kid. Please keep us posted, Melissa.

Why? God only knows. It's not touchy with me, lol. I told her the whole time to stop. She had "advice cards" in her shower invites and my advice was to stop smoking. ;)~

My sis smoked with both of my nieces and they both have smoked with their babies. Oh well. I just pray it's not his lungs.

Coyle Eagan. One Year Old. Doing well on Cow's Milk flavored with juice :) Drinking two bottles of Go&Grow daily. Eating solids better but still have rough days. No More Silent Reflux-that I can hear anyway.. but puking again. Zantac 2ML 2X daily.
I smoked for 10 years. I tried to quit smoking 7 times. I quit the day i found out i was pregnant ( i was not smoking that often by that time because we were trying) and have not smoked since. it is not difficult, kwim...

anyway, smoking increases heartburn like mad! i can't believe anyone would smoke while prenant but even worse continue to smoke around the baby. i hope the baby is ok

Our 1 year old daughter has silent reflux, hypotonia as well as benign external hydrocephalus. We are currently weaning onto whole milk (we'll see if it works) and she is also on Prevacid 15mg per day.
That's not news I wanted to hear!!!! Gosh I remember when my grandma would smoke and I was just a little kid. I could hardly breathe in the room and I would go home w/ a stuffy nose and sore throat that would last for days on end. I can't imagine what that does to a baby. Poor little thing! He's in my thoughts!!! Hoping things turn out better from this point on!

Donnessa, mom to Halley born 3/10/07
Reflux (mostly) resolved at 14 months
and Addison born 8/17/09. Currently exclusively bf and on 7.5mg Prevacid
Poor little guy! My mom smoked like a chimney (menthols...ewwww). Every time I would go see her my eyes would burn and my throat would swell. I can only imagine what kind of reaction your little nephew is having. She needs to stop TODAY (but I guess I'm preaching to the choir).

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers! Yep, I've fussed at her for years, but when her mom buys the cigs for her, what can I do? My mom smoked when I was growing up. I never noticed till I started staying with my aunt on weekends. Then it was clear! She stopped after a couple heart attacks, but is at it again since my stepdad died a few years back.

It's hard for me to understand since I've never smoked, but even if I smoked, I just don't think I could do that to my baby. And then to know that he's having breathing issues and to still do it. WHAT? That's just terrible. If it turns out that he's having lung issues, you better bet they'll hear from me!!! I keep some of it to myself but I promise you if it's his lungs, I will let them have it and somehow try to ENCOURAGE them all to stop.

On top of all this--they "borrowed" money from my mom tonight and I guarantee they went out and bought cigs for everybody. They used the whole "the baby's in the hospital" crap to get money. My mom works her butt off at WALMART making nothing and they come and take it from her. UGH UGH UGH

Mom (Danie) to Adam (9-4-03) & Nate (3-7-07) Nate was diagnosed with silent AR at 2 months old. He was on neocate, prevacid 30mg per day and couldn't start solids till he was almost 8 months old. He started cow's milk at 14 months and is currently off all meds!! So far so good :) PIC: Disney trip 2008. Nate didn't know Piglet was there, he didn't like the characters too much.
Oh Melissa, I will say a prayer for him. Please let me know how they are all doing!!

Zoo Boo Trick-or-Treating (pic).
Oh boy, my mother and I go round and round about smoking. We had a huge fight about 4 years ago about it. She wouldn't talk to me for days! I gave her strict orders when I had my son NO SOMKING AROUND HIM! I read that it makes A/R worse so I used that as my second justification (first being he is a newborn and doesn't need the exposure). It's so bad with her, she needed a surgery that they told her she'd have to quit smoking for. She didn't have the surgery! She finally had to have it (Monday) and she told the doctor she quit smoking 2 weeks ago...LIE! I know the second she gets released from the hospital she'll light up. I don't smoke so I don't understand the addiction. I can't say it's easy or hard and I really try to be understanding. I just know that if something, anything, was adversely affecting my health, I'd do my d*mnest to stop it.

That's how I feel Ronya. I know it's probably hard, just like it's hard for me to diet, but I like to think if the dr told me I couldn't have starbuck's coffee any more, I'd stop, lol.
Check with your
doctor first!
