I am Jacky, mommy to Joslyn Olivia (April 2008) and Katelyn Isabel (November 2009).
Joslyn was dx'ed with Silent Reflux with breath apnea at 5 days old. VERY SCARY!
Katelyn is a spitter reflux baby. Started at 3 days old as well. (Both were/are breast fed.. symptoms came on when my milk came in).
Joslyn has been reflux free since she was 12 months (suffered poor weight gain for a few months) and Katelyn is now on Zantac... waiting to see if it works.
Joslyn can go 6 days inbtween bm's. Her doc said some bf babies can go up to a week long inbtween bm's. I hope she is okay!

Melissa - Mommy to Sebastian, born 9/28/07 @ 7 lbs 7 oz and 20.75 in. At docs at 12 months: 27 pounds and 32 in! Good grief! GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Neocate only - no solids - until further notice (drinks and loves water, too). Loves his doggie, our rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Louise, even though he is allergic to her. Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(
Uh oh. This sounds like Sebastian. Any eczema? Full vomits? He cannot tolerate Lactulose at ALL. It worked for one day and then made him incredibly constipated (he was much younger then...andnow his milk allergy is so much more sevre...probably from all the exposure). Please keep me updated! And don't listen if they tell you no one is allergic to medical-grade lactose if you suspect that could be it. That's a crock. Poor baby...hope she feels better soon.

Worry Wart mom to
27 mo. reformed "happy spitter"
34.8lbs , 37in tall(oct)
Diagnosed A/R at 6 wks
Zantac until 1yr then Prevacid
Med free since February 08
peanut & egg allergies...still
Zoo Boo Trick-or-Treating (pic).
Maybe doctor is worried about an obstruction? Prunes and prune juice take care of this for us. However, I hear that babies only have to take one poo a week? I guess it must be the other symptoms with the no poo that concerns the doc? I am sure she is fine but better to be safe than sorry and take her in. Keep us updated.

sending healthy pooping vibes your way. I too have heard that about bf babies but if Nolan went more then 2 days without a bm his reflux was out of control so I know how worried you can get over poop!

LOL definitely not for the squiemish! (my spell check says thats not a world lol) she is breast fed and gets formula. i too read that breastfed babies could go as long as a week w/o a b/m, but our pedi does not like that she drastically cuts down her eating and spits up in her mouth. I was feeding her (for about 3 weeks) 2 oz prune juice and another bottle of 2 oz sugar water daily and it did nothing as well! i since cut out those bottles b/c it feels like i am feeding her junk that is replacing her b/f meals which i feel are more important.

mom to Mila 2-20-2007
and Robby 4-22-2004
Mila is on Peptamen JR 30 cal by NG tube. Open Heart Surgery 2/08/08. Captopril, Zantac, Losec, Lasix.
How much lactulose is she getting? its a fairly safe medication, but the dose is touchy. Mila ( whose 22 lbs, i bet ) gets 5mls twice a day, up to 7.5 mls three times a day if she's not going.

Your doctor is probably worried that there is a bowel obstruction or a stool impaction and will very likely send you for X rays.

Let us know how it goes?

Tracey, mom to Katie. Diagnosed with reflux at 3 weeks and put on Zantac. At 8 months old she was removed from Zantac as it was giving her migraines, currently on Prevacid. Switched to Elecare since she is not gaining weight; trialing solids after being off for a month. Geneticist said reason she isn't gaining weight is she is stubborn. Upcoming appts.: Neurologist for developmental delay and EGD scheduled for September. She is one funny baby!
Poor baby!! I hope you gets some answers and she gets some relief! Juice and sugar water do nothing for Katie but make her reflux flare up so she won't drink anything sweet now.

hi kat, you already know all the thoughts in MY head about what could be wrong! BUT, everyone will tell you too that preemies have a hard time pooping in general. Their systems are just so immature it can take a few months to get things moving slowly. Let us know ASAP after you see the pedi or get xrays or whatever you have to do :(
Check with your
doctor first!
