Daycare Question????
When your child was entered into a daycare facility did you ahve to sign a medical release for ALL of your hcild's medical record to be sent to the daycare???

I am wondering IF this is legal and if they are supposed to do that...hhhhmmmm The day care I worked at that was private at a church (we followed all stae guidelines) did NOT require anything except a shot record.

I have looked at one place for Jedd becasue I am going to try and work again...and this is what they wanted.

They also wouldn't give me any answers about feeding Jedd and how they could or could not do it while he was there....

I also had a long form that all of his drs have to fill out in order for him to go...*sigh*

I think I'm just going to get a job at night instead of during the day.

I don't think ANYONE will take my poor Jedd unless I am on the property all the time....:`(

At the end she even suggested that maybe I should call social services and see about a private in home day care for Jedd...

Tracey, mom to Katie. Diagnosed with reflux at 3 weeks and put on Zantac. At 8 months old she was removed from Zantac as it was giving her migraines, currently on Prevacid. Switched to Elecare since she is not gaining weight; trialing solids after being off for a month. Geneticist said reason she isn't gaining weight is she is stubborn. Upcoming appts.: Neurologist for developmental delay and EGD scheduled for September. She is one funny baby!
I'm pretty sure that your medical chart is way private. I log onto our HMO's site to look at Katie's medical charts to see dr's notes on past visits and it says all over the webpage how confidential this information is. I know they have to have proof of his shots but I don't think they can ask for medical record.

Our 1 year old daughter has silent reflux, hypotonia as well as benign external hydrocephalus. We are currently weaning onto whole milk (we'll see if it works) and she is also on Prevacid 15mg per day.
Hmmm where I live they just want a immunization record. I've never heard of needing all medical records before. That's a little weird. I hear you- I think eventually once Keira is more mobile and things calm down then I'll probably find a night or weekend job but I don't feel a daycare would really work for Keira right now. On our local P2P thing they have listings about in home day cares that are able to care for kids that have different needs and such-is that what she meant?

Yes, they have no right to your medical records!!!! Crazy folks! My DC wanted a general health questionair. My doctor had to put that he was up to date for shots and that he was in good health. If he neede special care, the doctor was supposed to list that on the form. My DC was very upfront about how they would feed DS and that they have lots of AR experience. I would think that anyplace would be open about how they do things. I mean, these are our precious babies and we need to be confident that they are being cared for properly. How do they feel about drop ins or calling to check up on him? They should be totally open.

Reflux (mostly) resolved at 14 months
and Addison born 8/17/09. Currently exclusively bf and on 7.5mg Prevacid
I agree with the pps - that is private information and WAY more than they need (or are able, by law, to ask for). For us, we had to have an immunization record and a general form about Halley's health.

My personal opinion the feeding is if they can't answer the questions, then it is not the right place for him. Can you call the Children's Hospital and talk to a social worker to see if there are any good options for special needs kids?

Yeah, I'm not gonna sign the med. release form. Besides every office that would have to send the info would want to be paid for them being that they are soo HUGE!!!! Teh epdi. one itself is about 4 inches thick!!!! He is up to 2 binders already. Besides I'm pretty sure it's private and they aren't supposed to ask for it.

I think I might look for a nighttime job instead.....Unless I can find one that I can bring Jedd to with me.

I did drop by this one....they didn't seem to upset but kept telling me to make an appt. to come back...not sure why.

When I worked at our church's day care (K-5) we welcomed people who dropped by. I actually did NOT make an appt on purpose. I wasn't about to tell her that though....LOL

That's for the opnions.

If they are making you schedule and appointment, then it's DEFINITELY not the place for Jedd. Our daycare welcomes drop-ins and at first I did it ALL the time. Hope you're able to find something that will work for both of you.

Yeah, that's what I thought. the info they gave is is obviously NOT all the info they normally give. It doesn't have any info about rules and regs or any prices....

The people/workers were super freindly though....

I've never heard of a daycare requiring this. Maybe it is because of his needs?!?!?!? I honestly don't know if it is legal maybe that is why you have to sign the release?

That's the only thing I can think of as to why they need them. They did give me a form for children with special needs where I have to fill out all his DX and how it pertains to his daily life. As well as surgical procedures.....so... it could be because of that. But I really doubt that any of the Dr offices are going to send them without the center paying for them sinc ethey are sooo long.

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
Well, we follow all the bells and whistles and we don't do that. Sounds to me like they just want to be nosey. I'd ask some other parents if they had to do it first. I'd also check with your dept of social services or child services.

I would think that if you signed a release giving them permission, then it would be totally legal. I am an SLP and we have releases signed on both ends if we need info, and then we can get it, talk to drs, etc. Why a daycare would want an entire medical record though is beyond me. Who has time to read all that? Elyse has binders all over too, at 2 hospitals and 4 drs' offices. The daycare would probably have to lease a new office to store Jedd's entire record, not to mention the cost of copying all that, like you said! I would keep looking, or find a job where you can take him with you, or get a medical transcription job to do at home (yes it requires schooling, but my friend did the schooling and now makes great money from home...she gets up before the kids and gets most of it done then). I hate leaving Elyse even tough it's with my mom....I feel so guilty, but I am the main breadwinner here even working part time!
Check with your
doctor first!
