Melissa - Mommy to Sebastian, born 9/28/07 @ 7 lbs 7 oz and 20.75 in. At docs at 12 months: 27 pounds and 32 in! Good grief! GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Neocate only - no solids - until further notice (drinks and loves water, too). Loves his doggie, our rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Louise, even though he is allergic to her. Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(

Hi Ellen. I was thinking about you a lot last night...and am wondering...is Eric getting sick from everything he eats? Even if he is, maybe it is just one or two things that are responsible for the EE diagnosis. If you eliminate and it ends up it is just those foods, then it will just be like any other allergy. That's what I am praying for!

Coyle Eagan. One Year Old. Doing well on Cow's Milk flavored with juice :) Drinking two bottles of Go&Grow daily. Eating solids better but still have rough days. No More Silent Reflux-that I can hear anyway.. but puking again. Zantac 2ML 2X daily.
I was thinking about that too last night. Maybe just take foods away and start with the safe foods moms on the EE board know about. Do you think a 2nd opinion is a good idea, too? i dont know, guess it depends on what the biopsy shows..

2 healthy daughters (knock wood) Cory (16), Kim (11) & Eric (4) diagnosed with e.e. (scoped 8/08), GERD & severe food/seasonal allergies, asthma. Cried non-stop first 17 mths. of life Found out he is allergic to cow's milk, soy, eggs, and peanuts. Takes Prevacid, Neocate One Plus & Flovent.
Thank you all so much for thinking of us. As far as the question about what was making Eric sick (choking spells on little bits of food, hands in mouth, behavior issues, & some constipation), I really can't say. We scratch tested him for so many foods at the allergist & only four came up positive (which we cut out completely). I really wonder how much the seasonal allergies can play a part in e.e.. He wheezes whenever he goes out back to play for a while. The allergist said to use the neb. whenever that happens, but it happens practically everyday. Maybe he should be on a preventitive med.? I will find out the next step soon, after talking to his GI Dr. in a few days. I'm sure he'll send us to CHOP allergist too. Sebastian's Mommy (is it Melissa??? - I'm so bad with names - I remember the baby/child) - I know you can relate 100% because of what you are dealing with. I may just seek out that Dr. Wood if CHOP doesn't work out. They did screw up already, when he was little. Thanks again & all the best to your little ones. Ellen

The scratch and RAST tests can be pretty much worthless with Type 4 allergies or OAS like Sebastian has...so don't get too hung up on those. Sebastian STILL tests negative for milk, and he is so sensitive to it that he vomited/had diarrhea for a week at the beginning of the month when he was prescribed Omnicef! And the same goes for bananas and blueberries - and our reaction to bananas was horrendous. It could be that Eric has the very same issues. Bassy's body was such a wreck that he could eat NOTHING...hence the foodless diet. As for the patches, yes, they might very well be EE, but I really wish your doctor hadn't given you that "diagnosis" without absolute confirmation. You may recall that our "reputable" Hopkins GI diagnosed Sebastian with Celiacs because "all signs pointed to it)...and then we got the test results, and they said NO - and then the GI STILL INSISTED AND TOLD ME THERE WAS NO REASON TO SEE OUR ALLERGIST, DR. WOOD! And then Dr. Wood told us like five seconds into our meeting that he didn't have a disease - especially Celiacs - and that his problems were 90% food related and 10% food related...and that the food had caused all the damage. And you may recall that Sebastian had four eosinophils in his esophagus, inflammation throughout his entire GI tract, and mucuos in his duodenum...and STILL no EE. I am praying that your little man is like mine. EE is very rare, while food allergies are running rampant these days. KEEP ME POSTED. ~Melissa

MY son has EE, but also a ton of other issues. I would try not to get too worked up and upset about it. Keep in mind that the only way to dx EE is biopsy, not visual examination. We had all neg. allergy testing except milk. Also, sometimes food is not the only trigger(this is less common though). Rarely, it cannot be discoved what is causing the eos and it almost seems to be autoimmune reaction. My son developed EE on elemental diet, which is very uncommon. 95% clear on eliminating the top 8 foods, and then the rest almost always clear on elemental(formula only) diet. IF there are eosinophils present, GERD also must be ruled out before the dx of EE can be made as it can cause some(but lower levels) of eos.
