Coy Ate...
A FLY!!!! gross, gross, gross!!! I keep the cleanest house (seriously, i do..) and he has to find a fly that died, what, 5 mintues ago? i'm about to puke but then again i hate vomit now..

BUT, the good news is he also ate... YOGURT! AND BREAD, AND REAL CRACKERS, AND CHEESE!!! green beans, turkey, etc. etc. he hates any tater or squash like texture but i think many kids do.. He is not eating a great quantity of foods-i'm sure because he is still drinking 24-28 oz of formula-but a wonderful variety that has not worsened reflux nor made him vomit AT ALL.. I've noticed that he isnt' pooping every morning like he used to but my mom thinks all the crackers are binding him up. Fine with me considering how difficult the alimentum runnies are to clean. I was so happy I could cry when i fed him food off of my plate! It gives me hope that the reflux might stop too!

We visited a wellness chiro for the first time. I'm hoping that that improves the reflux. It is still painful for him but mostly in the mornings after he has had his first bottle (well 2nd since i still feed him @ 430). I'm thinking about decreasing the # of the 430 bottle until it is gone and then sitting him in his highchair first thing in the morning instead of going straight to the bottle. If he drinks too much formula he never eats breakfast.

also, a quick survey. when did you cut out the nighttime bottle? coyle gets his about 30 min. prior to getting in the crib. anywhere from 4-6 oz. i'm thinking about keeping it until 15 mo. or sooner if he doesn't want it.. thanks for listening!

Melissa - Mommy to Sebastian, born 9/28/07 @ 7 lbs 7 oz and 20.75 in. At docs at 12 months: 27 pounds and 32 in! Good grief! GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Neocate only - no solids - until further notice (drinks and loves water, too). Loves his doggie, our rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Louise, even though he is allergic to her. Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(
Hi Kelly! Well, Coy is definitely a doubt about that. I was going to be worried that he would end up like my bug-eating FIL, but then I got to the part about all the other stuff he ate. And no problems with the yogurt??? Hooray!! My MIL gets sick from milk, ice cream and cheese but can have yogurt and baked good with milk in them until the cows come home. Maybe Coy has something like that rather than FPIES? That would be great!

Not sure about the overnight bottle. We will probably be on it forever because Sebastian is going to be over a year when he starts solids again, and then we'll only be doing a new food every 2-3 weeks...Dr. Wood says we may have him eating like a "normal" kid (albeit a kid with allergies and a limited diet) by the time he is three or four - so I imagine he will be needing his bottle for some time. We will probably be on Neocate infant, he said, unitl well into his second year. Also not sure about the evening bottle - I don't see that one going anywhere for us any time soon, either. Sebastian used to do that with the night bottle - he would eat around 4, and the I couldn't get him to eat in the a.m. It drove me crazy! But he suddenly (a few weeks ago) started waking up to eat between one and three instead, so now he is hungry by 6 again...

I'm so happy Coy is eating so well for you! I cannot WAIT to feed Bassy off my plate!!!

Thanks Melissa. I know, i'm really nervous that this won't last.. i mean he isn't vomiting from it and i know that won't start any time soon but i'm watching for any delayed reactions like eczema and such but have not seen any and I started the dairy/soy intro on Sat. I was so scared but I just wanted to try again thinking the worse that could happen would be increased reflux and/or vomit & diarrhea but like i said so far so good. i'm amazed and nervous @ the same time!

I'm so glad that you and sebastian have an advocate that understands what he is going through. I sure hope that the trialing of solids goes well for you both.

Tracey, mom to Katie. Diagnosed with reflux at 3 weeks and put on Zantac. At 8 months old she was removed from Zantac as it was giving her migraines, currently on Prevacid. Switched to Elecare since she is not gaining weight; trialing solids after being off for a month. Geneticist said reason she isn't gaining weight is she is stubborn. Upcoming appts.: Neurologist for developmental delay and EGD scheduled for September. She is one funny baby!

Ewwwww.......a fly???? Katie will put ANYTHING in her mouth unless she is allowed to eat it then it is "contaminated" with cooties or something. She just got her two bottom teeth a week ago and they aren't even all the way up yet but she squishes dried apples around her mouth; she won't feed herself them though. If she finds a flower petal on her blanket outside it is instantly in her mouth!

Yea for eating off of mama's plate!!!!!!!

Our 1 year old daughter has silent reflux, hypotonia as well as benign external hydrocephalus. We are currently weaning onto whole milk (we'll see if it works) and she is also on Prevacid 15mg per day.
That's a boy for ya! :P LOL I'm happy to hear he's eating more now! I still give Keira a night time bottle before bed and I don't plan to cut it out any time soon. She seems to let me know when she's ready for change I guess so....

Well aren't flies high in protein? It sounds like Coy is doing pretty well though. It is great he is eating different things.
