I am so sick of... Rant
I am so sick of people making comments about my sons weight. We go any where and we hear "oh my he is so big". Or "wow what a BIG boy". Or "he sure likes to eat" Or my new least fave "He doesn't miss a meal". No, of course I don't make my son miss meals, he isn't on a diet, I don't starve him. Nolan is a bigger baby. But he is off the charts in height and weight. So I have to tell everyone yes he is big but his is proportant.(sp?) I also hear "he is as big as my 2 year old". Gee, lady thank you for your kind words. Or "I just want to squeeze his chubby cheeks", or "I love those fat thighs", "he is a chunk".

We have had too many family reunions, parties and playdates lately that I am just fed up with the comments. I am starting to get really frustrated. Sorry I just had to get it out. I fell better now:0

Melina 7/24/02 now reflux free!!
TWINS:
Ella 5/3/05 GERD, asthma, hypotonia, food intolerances, esophagitis, IBS //
Ava 5/3/05 asthma, food allergies
Pic: My girls! They are getting so big!
Yeah, that gets on my nerves too. I got it from both sides... once when they were skinny and now I get it for Ella being chunky still. I hate when someone will come up and tell me "wow, are they twins? That one is chubbier". She's three, not stupid. I don't want her to have a complex already about her weight. Geeze. I totally kwym Amber!!! People just don' think about what they are saying before they say it. UGH. I've gotten the "she doesn't miss a meal" thing too. In my worst moments I tell them that she nearly starved to death as an infant do to her GI issues so I am glad she is a healthy weight and eating now. They don't usually say much more to me after that. ;)

Melissa - Mommy to Sebastian, born 9/28/07 @ 7 lbs 7 oz and 20.75 in. At docs at 12 months: 27 pounds and 32 in! Good grief! GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Neocate only - no solids - until further notice (drinks and loves water, too). Loves his doggie, our rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Louise, even though he is allergic to her. Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(
I get this ALL the time with Sebastian, so I feel your pain! We just moved into a new neighborhood, and some random lady told me he has such fat arms and legs. I decided to try a new route. I said, "We spoon a little bit of lard into his bottles so I don't have to worry about feeding him as often. It gets to be such a pain in the butt - making all of those bottles and then washing them. This way, if he misses a meal, he can just tap into his fat reserves."

I am Jacky, mommy to Joslyn Olivia (April 2008) and Katelyn Isabel (November 2009).
Joslyn was dx'ed with Silent Reflux with breath apnea at 5 days old. VERY SCARY!
Katelyn is a spitter reflux baby. Started at 3 days old as well. (Both were/are breast fed.. symptoms came on when my milk came in).
Joslyn has been reflux free since she was 12 months (suffered poor weight gain for a few months) and Katelyn is now on Zantac... waiting to see if it works.
i hear ya!! we are tired of hearing "oh she is small for her age! I dont remember mine being that small at 4 months!" yes, joslyn is in the 10% for weight... but 90-95% for length. we just want to tell people to bite us!! why do people have to make comments?? oh we got a new one this past weekend....."that ia a petite baby... must be a girl" (she was in PINK DUH) then said "little girls should be small." ahhhhh the words of brilliant minds!!!!!!!!!! (ok i am done now too)

well, you all know my feelings/thoughts on this one. melissa, can you think something up for my 26" 16 pounder? i know amber, is it so hurtful either way.. if they are big or small. people look @ me with disdain sometimes as if i don't feed my son. i spend 90% of my energy througout the day thinking about FOOD. just what my 25lb overweight butt wants to do.. lol he's a beautiful boy and doing well...they can p*ss off.

Kelly, why don't you try: "Yes, he is small, but with the rising cost of food these days, we had to cut corners somewhere...so we went with his formula. After all, he has the rest of his life to eat."

Mary & Nicholas 7-17-03 (non-refluxer)allergies, asthma on Singulair and Flovent & Aidan 1-28-07(my refluxer)Nissen Fundoplication on June 20, 2008, FTT, MSPI, DGE, ear tubes, allergies and severe GERD now currently taking just Prevacid and drinking Elecare Vanilla 1+.
Amber-my first was the exact same way he was always above the 90% for both height and weight. He was big but was very proportionate and people said all kinds of cruel things. THe funny thing is they say the same things now about Aidan about how big he is and he is only in the 30% for height/weight. It bothers me when people say about Aidan that he must love to eat because I worry and struggle with it everyday. He looks so much bigger then he is I guess. I just love chunky legs too they are the best. Don't let it get to you. Some people just can't not say something.

ethan's mom
Meridith, mom to Ethan born 4/23/08. Ethan was diagnosed with reflux at about 1 month. He has been on Zantac (unsuccessful) and Prevacid. He is currently taking 7.5 mg of Prevacid 2x per day, with good results. We also suspect MPI, though this hasn't been confirmed by a doctor yet.
Ethan is mostly breastfed, though we are doing one bottle of soy formula each day. We also do some homeade "solids' including, so far pears, avocado, sweet potato, and peaches.
Photobucket
I hear the one's about Ethan being small all the time, and it makes me crazy.

I had a funny thing happen at the grocery store Sunday related to this. I had about $60 in my checking account, and was trying to get groceries for the week. Ethan is breastfed, but once per day we try to give him a formula bottle, just to give me a break, and we were close to being out. I grabbed a can of formula, and had my coupon, but when the cashier totaled up my bill, it was $43 dollars, without the formula, so I asked her to put the formula back. You should have seen the look on her face! I have really been trying hard not to explain or acknowledge when people make comments about his weight, so I didn't bother with an explanation, and just went on with the rest of my day. I'm sure she was ready to turn me into the authorities!

Currently drinking Elecare vanilla 30cal/oz and breastmilk.
Meds: Nexium 10mg 2x daily. Carafate as needed, miralaxx as needed, probiotics daily
Yeah, this is awful. I will NEVER comment on a child's size after having Cooper. I got asked more times than I can count if Cooper was a preemie, followed by, "then why's he so tiny?" Is it really any of there business. Or being told that he should be on preemie formula, not bf. I'm pretty sure my drs and I had it under control, but thanks for your non-professional opinion!!! I think part of the problem, is people make a comment not realizing they are the 10th person to ask you that day. But Jen, that is so uncalled for about Ella. She is not a baby, so in no one's book is it ok to comment on her size! This is th reason eating disorders are such an epidemic in our country, an obsession w/ size (big or small) from birth. Please, comment on my child's blue eyes instead! Ok I'm finished now too;)

katiesmommy
Tracey, mom to Katie. Diagnosed with reflux at 3 weeks and put on Zantac. At 8 months old she was removed from Zantac as it was giving her migraines, currently on Prevacid. Switched to Elecare since she is not gaining weight; trialing solids after being off for a month. Geneticist said reason she isn't gaining weight is she is stubborn. Upcoming appts.: Neurologist for developmental delay and EGD scheduled for September. She is one funny baby!

o according to our geneticist Nolan, Ella and Sebastian must not be strong willed babies! Joslyn, Coy, Ethan, Cooper and Katie just must be the only strong willed babies here! How lucky for us! Ugghhh.....I have actually gotten to the point of telling strangers that she has GERD when they comment on her size or the fact that she will be screaming. They then look a little taken aback when I say she is on Prevacid and has to have an endoscope to see why she throws up entire bottles and can't tolerate solids.

Melissa~what a bad mother you are! Don't you know that lard has trans fat??

I remember when Quinn was tiny. right before she got her g-tube. We got comments all the time. People always thought that she and her 9month younger cousin were twins! it was nutzo!!!! One time, I went to a WIC appointment with her and one of the ladies there said that she hadn't grown in four months and I said I know and that she is going to the doctors about it. (this was when the GI doctor wanted to put an NG tube in) and you know what she said to me? IN the rudest, sternest, most shocking voice and in front of everybody she says to me, "Well you need to feed that baby." My jaw dropped. AS IF I DON'T!!!!! It's not my fault that everything I fed her came right back out. geeze. I was so distraught after that. Katie's mommy. I am literally rolling on the floor laughing. I can't believe your geneticist, but then again, I can (which is pretty sad) -Sarah

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
Sorry Amber...just try to let it roll off. (easier said than done)

Jen--I learned this the hard way. I don't know what I was thinking. I have 3 sets of twins in my class now. The boys are very similar except in height. I commented that one is bigger and the shorter one got so upset. I felt really bad. He obviously gets that a lot and already gets hurt over it.

I have had a tiny boy and a BIG girl. Either way I don't understand why people need to voice their opinion about everything! One day while shopping (which happened all the time when she was HUGE) I was stopped while several people gawked over the kids. Then they were shocked at my size (ok I will post I am just under 5ft and under 100lbs) and then there sat my 9mo old in 18mo old clothes. One lady actually made a comment something to the fact there was no way I had a baby that big. I simply looked at her w/o hesitating and said "Well she did not come out this size." I walked off. Shut them up! My ds is still very lanky (you can ask Danie) and it looks like we take his food and give it to Aubrey!!!
Check with your
doctor first!
