Mom to Charlie - cleft palate and reflux. Meds - zantac, prevacid, mylanta and reglan.
always congested - thoughts?
Lately my son Charlie is congested all the time and coughs. It is worst in the morning and he will typically vomit about 2 oz of his 5 oz feeding then it clears up as the day goes on. He also coughs in the middle of the night and I had to cut back on his last feeding so that he wouldn't vomit at 3AM. He did have aspiration pneumonia but that seems to have cleared up as the cough is much better and there is less thick, yellow mucus. He has a cleft palate so is at increased risk of aspiration which worries me. We are seeing the pulmo on Monday the 18th. Anyone else experience this? Thanks, Susie

Hi Susie. I have not experienced this. However, do you think it could be a sinus issue? I don't know much about the problems associated with a cleft palate but is there more of an issue with drainage? When my son coughs at night, it's usually drainage. I know from my own experience that drainage is worse when lying down. It can take a while to clear in the morning too. Hopefully this helps. Hang in there!

MY oldest was like that and had bronchilitis when he was about 7 months, it ended being food allergies specifically soy and oats, gerber oatmeal cereal had soy. after seeing an ent, no help i eliminated all solids except for neocate formula and BF in a week I saw the difference, no more runny nose or bronchialitis. I then introd foods again very slowly journalling everything

Thanks for the posts. I asked one of the docs (can't remember which) about sinusitis and he said something about sinuses not being developed enough at 8 months to have it. It could be drainage, maybe it is some cold he can't shake - my 3 year old goes to daycare and can't keep his hands off his little brother. He's on alimentum, so I don't think it is allergies unless the thickener we use has something in it...will have to check that out.

Melissa - Mommy to Sebastian, born 9/28/07 @ 7 lbs 7 oz and 20.75 in. At docs at 12 months: 27 pounds and 32 in! Good grief! GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Neocate only - no solids - until further notice (drinks and loves water, too). Loves his doggie, our rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Louise, even though he is allergic to her. Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(
This sounds EXACTLY like Sebastian. He had been vomiting either his entire night time bottle (we have Pergo in his room, and th epuke is a pool the size of a pizza) or his first-thing-in-the-am bottle several times a week for eight months before our allergist (the latest one) finally pointed out that it was from him swallowing so much post-nasal drip from his congestion. He has terrible envirnomental allergies. Let me tell you - if you hve carpet in his room and can swing Pergo (we paid $1.07 a square foot and my dad/FIL/husband put it in, so it was quite affordable as far as flooring goes), do it! It has helped Sebastian immensely. Also, last week, he vomited EVERY day. We went to the ENT again and asked for answers, and he ended up giving us a new, all-natural (AYR brand) nasal wash that I am to administer and then suck out with a syringe. He also gave us Nasonex, which I give him once a day. No more vomiting...at least so far! Hope this helps a bit

Melissa - Great idea. Our room has carpet but we do have one room with h/w floors. Will give that a try. Susie
