Riley at 2.5 months old....Diagnosed with GERD at 2 months, prevacid desovable tabs twice a day, regaln and zantac did not work for us.Switched to Nutramigen formula (with extra scoops for calories) upper GI done, negative for pyloric stenosis,or any milk allergies...possible PH probe test soon to come....still waiting on DGE diagnosis......Shes our lil cutie =)
ready made vs powder formula
has anyone found that using the ready made formula in a can vs the powder helps their baby? we have thought about switching her to the ready made if it would help... right now shes on nutramigen and i havent seen a huge difference from the soy formula she was just on.

My dd was on good start, similac, soy, and nutramigen....all powder....when we switched to concentrate (liquid you mix with water) she literally did not vomit for two whole weeks!!!! We *thought* we had found the magic *answer*, but she kept on puking after that for a few more months. We never did switch her back to powder, because it was a pain in the butt anyway getting it mixed well. My dd is still on concentrate. It's actually quite easy to mix it to higher calories because you just add less water. If you want to try the ready-to-feed, don't do it just because of her vomiting, because it's far too expensive, and it probably won't make that much difference over the long run. The concentrate is a happy medium. I always found that Rory did well for a few days after *any* change we made, just to give me hope and have it dashed......she's a stinker, lol. Good luck!

oh, the other thing is that nutramigen does not come in concentrate or r-t-f, I don't think. Alimentum does though. We tried nutramigen but Rory hated the stuff. Usually GI's want you to try the hypoallergenic formulas even if no milk allergy is suspected because it is more easily digestible. Alimentum is the same thing, virtually.

I will say that my dd is on alimentum and had been doing fine on the powder. recently I switched her to RTF and it was pretty much a disaster. Her stool got really thick and she was going about 6 times a day. I also noticed blood in her stool. Not sure if was the RTF but it would be a huge coincidence if it was not. So, if you want to try it, maybe you should do it slowly instead of changing over all at once like I did,

This is our dd, Alessandra. Dx with GER 10/07. Ran the gamut with meds and now done with them (crossed fingers). Using magnesium, probiotics and prebiotic supplements. With the exception of teething and general sassy attitude, all is well now. They really CAN grow out of it!
Nutram DOES come RTF, and some of the kids do better on RTF formula, though I never really saw much of a change for my dd. The main difference is the powder has corn syrup solids and RTF had sucrose.

And any changes to diet I definitely recommend going SLOWLY - we always did an ounce by ounce change over a few weeks.

sorry, should have mentioned....I am in Canada and I could NOT find rtf nutram anywhere. I didn't realize it was available in the US as rtf. didn't want to mislead you.

We tried the RTF Nutramigen and if anything I think he did a little worse, but every baby is different.

Sorry Michelle! I just re-read how I wrote that and it looks awfully curt.

I found the Nutram RTF on diapers.com
