Rude old man at the store
We went to the grocery store this morning (so dh could deal w/ kids and I would get what I needed). As we were walking down an aisle I could not believe what this rude old man said to me.

"Wow, you are short. You are shorter than my wife and that is just sad."

Y'all I don't find myself speechless very often, but I was shocked. I just walked off from him. I never said a word. There were a million things running through my head, but did not want to raise my blood pressure and harm the baby. He has no idea what is going on in my life to even say something like that. I have no problems w/ my height. I have been "vertically challenged" all my life nothing new. But how does he know my height wasn't stunted due to receiving chemo as a kid or something like that????

I guess I was just raised different and you don't say things like that to people. I was floored! Just had to share my wonderful shopping experience!

Tracey, mom to Katie diagnosed with GERD at 3 week.

Nice!!! You finally are able to get out and you are told you are short. I have told rude people that I have had some injury that has resulted in X; it usually makes THEM speechless.

I'm like 5 foot tall and my husband is 6 ' 1" so I get the "you're short" from him but usually strangers don't comment on it. BTW, how tall are you?

You may be "short" but he's just an (insert explative here)!! It takes all kinds. I am not "vertically challenged" but if it makes you feel better, I am always hitting my head on things. One time I stood up too fast and hit my head on a low tree branch and gave myself a mild concussion. It's not always all it's cracked up to be!! Kudos for biting your tongue. I'm not sure I could have.

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
Well, he's no southern gentleman is he. Wow! You should have said "yes, I'm a short pregnant woman and I've knocked people out for less than that". LOL I bet he's nice to his wife :)

Melissa - Mommy to Sebastian, born 9/28/07 @ 7 lbs 7 oz and 20.75 in. At docs at 12 months: 27 pounds and 32 in! Good grief! GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Neocate only - no solids - until further notice (drinks and loves water, too). Loves his doggie, our rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Louise, even though he is allergic to her. Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(
How lame. I don't know what is wrong with people. His lucky wife.

Once my husband was walking Louise (the dog) when this guy in a long, brown robe with a giant hood came pu to him and said, "You are both going to burn in the flames of hell!" Louise started growling at him! Good dog! But seriously - I mean, what has my dog done to end up burning in hell????? (no offense to my husband. He's not a bad seed, either).

This is our dd, Alessandra. Dx with GER 10/07. Ran the gamut with meds and now done with them (crossed fingers). Using magnesium, probiotics and prebiotic supplements. With the exception of teething and general sassy attitude, all is well now. They really CAN grow out of it!
Nothing "short" of old world charm, huh? I get the "you should be taller than you are" a lot, since I have legs up to my ears and NO torso whatsoever, and I've had people on the street come up and tell me to either stop smoking or give up caffeine to get taller...um....I'M 28!!! I think I'm done growing. I'm 5'2" and I make my 5'10" hubby look like a giant.

Mom (Danie) to Adam (9-4-03) & Nate (3-7-07) Nate was diagnosed with silent AR at 2 months old. He was on neocate, prevacid 30mg per day and couldn't start solids till he was almost 8 months old. He started cow's milk at 14 months and is currently off all meds!! So far so good :) PIC: Disney trip 2008. Nate didn't know Piglet was there, he didn't like the characters too much.
Just plain RUDE if you ask me.

Reflux (mostly) resolved at 14 months
and Addison born 8/17/09. Currently exclusively bf and on 7.5mg Prevacid
Oh my goodness, what a rude thing to say. He probably thought he was being funny (or at least I hope that's the case and he's not just an insensitive rhymes-with-bass).

Other than the blood pressure spike, how are you feeling?

Zack born 09/28/07 @ 31 weeks. Dx silent reflux @ 6 mo. Now not so silent. Switched to Elecare @ 9 mo. On Prevacid 15mg 1x daily. Looking to stop the puke and gain some lbs.
Puke stopped about 24 months and he's learning to eat...very slowly.
Still on prevacid and periactin.
I get that a lot, too...I'm 5 foot on a good day. I think people think they are being funny. A woman caught me on a bad day at the market once (I was picking up more carpet cleaner for all the puke that day) and said basically the same thing...I believe my retort was in the neighborhood of..."at least I'm not ugly." I might have even inserted the B word...it was a really bad day. but COME ON! why is height ok to comment on...I always feel bad for really tall people who constantly have to deal with "do you play basketball?" lol
Check with your
doctor first!
