benadryl and motrin
Can you give them at the same time? I have been giving the benadryl for the runny, itchy nose butt it isn't helping the bodyaches and slight fever. So I was wondering if it would be harmful to give them both?

What do you do now that all the cold meds are unsafe for infants? I usually do the motrin but my doc said it was okay to do benadryl for his allergy eyes so I thought I would do it for the running nose too but it really doesn't help a whole lot. Any ideas?

Jessica, Mommy to Jedd, severe reflux, severe food and oral aversions, Finally G tube free!!! VSD repair 4-24-07 (open heart surgery), hypospadias, repaired 3 times and Ear tubes Visit Jedd at his CB site: www.caringbridge.org/visit/jedd
They are 2 separate classes of medications so I do both when needed. right now we do Claritan for Jedd's allergies (same class as benedryl except stronger) and tylenol and motrin on a 4 hour rotation as needed for a fever. I have slowed down on the fever reducers today to see if he pops a fever so he hasn't taken any of them today but yesterday he was on that roation.

Sorry, if the benedryl is not working to clear the nose it coudl be allergies instead of a cold. Taht's what we were told.

This is our dd, Alessandra. Dx with GER 10/07. Ran the gamut with meds and now done with them (crossed fingers). Using magnesium, probiotics and prebiotic supplements. With the exception of teething and general sassy attitude, all is well now. They really CAN grow out of it!
Could always call the pharmacist and see what they think. When Allie had congestion, we did a few steam baths per day. Helped some with it, though it only does for a short time.

Our 1 year old daughter has silent reflux, hypotonia as well as benign external hydrocephalus. We are currently weaning onto whole milk (we'll see if it works) and she is also on Prevacid 15mg per day.
We tried Benedryl with Keira and it did nothing really so the pedi said we could use Zyrtec and she's been on that each night now. I think it worked better.

She's had Zyrtec and Motrin today (had her ears pierced) too by the way.

Jodi, first time mom to baby Mason born at 28 weeks 12-10-07. He has GERD, DGE, MSPI, ?food allergies, and hypotonia (starts PT end of July). On Neocate (thickened with Simply Thick) and on prevacid and EES. Home apnea/bradycardia monitor d/c'd finally at 7 months!
I would always check with the pedi first, that being said they are two very different meds. Benadryl is an antihistamine, it is an older kind than claritin and zyrtec. All three are supposed to help with allergy symptoms-itchy eye/nose/throat, runny nose etc. Of the three claritin is generally the least sedating though everybody is different, next zyrtec, and lastly benadryl which is so sedating it is what makes tylenol pm "pm". Motrin is for pain and fever. Normally it is ok to take them together and I would not expect benadryl to help with body aches or fever. Now that so many products are taboo with the little ones we really have to rely on increasing fluids, using saline nasal sprays or rinses, fever control, steam, etc. It is so hard! HTH!!
Check with your
doctor first!
