Mary & Nicholas 7-17-03 (non-refluxer)allergies, asthma on Singulair and Flovent & Aidan 1-28-07(my refluxer)Nissen Fundoplication on June 20, 2008, FTT, MSPI, DGE, ear tubes, allergies and severe GERD now currently taking just Prevacid and drinking Elecare Vanilla 1+.
Back from GI, allergist & Pulmo
Note to self if you are ever thinking of scheduling both your childrens allergy, pulmo, and GI appts in the same day DON'T! Other then going a little crazy in the doctors offices today all went well. Nick went to the pulmo/allergist and he re-did his asthma action plan and we are taking Singulair again and changing Flonase to Veramist but otherwise was fairly the same. He did a bunch of immune system testing since we are trying to figure out why he has had pneumonia so many times this year. He also tested for CF and a few other things that were long shots and I just about laughed hysterically when he through out the possibility it could be reflux! Please God not another refluxer. Anyways, he is going to do an esphogram to check. Not even sure what that is. Does anyone know if Singulair comes in a liquid form??? We were doing the tablets but Nick hated them since they are like horse pills. Then Aidan went to the GI and he says he couldn't be happier with the Nissen results and he is healing nicely. Due to symptoms we are going to stick with the Prevacid and Elecare and a strict diet for another 3 months to give his body a little more time to grow out of the reflux and adjust to the Nissen and keep up with the Mirilax to avoid gas problems. So feels like more of the same but I am happy with that. We will talk about weaning at that time from both meds and formula. So all in all not a bad day but a long day.

Mom (Danie) to Adam (9-4-03) & Nate (3-7-07) Nate was diagnosed with silent AR at 2 months old. He was on neocate, prevacid 30mg per day and couldn't start solids till he was almost 8 months old. He started cow's milk at 14 months and is currently off all meds!! So far so good :) PIC: Disney trip 2008. Nate didn't know Piglet was there, he didn't like the characters too much.
I can barely stand to have both boys at a REGULAR ped appt on the same day...way to go Mary! When Nate was on singulair, he was on a powder form...I mixed it with rice cereal or applesauce. Adam is STILL med free (allergy meds) and I am still crossing my fingers it can last longer. I am happy that Aiden is doing so good :)

Thanks ladies. I am glad to hear there are some other Singulair options. I am still not a big fan of it as it seemed to really mellow Nick out but the pulmo didn't really like the alternatives bad lungs or Advair too strong for his age. So we will give it another shot. You guys are the best.

Melissa - Mommy to Sebastian, born 9/28/07 @ 7 lbs 7 oz and 20.75 in. At docs at 12 months: 27 pounds and 32 in! Good grief! GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Neocate only - no solids - until further notice (drinks and loves water, too). Loves his doggie, our rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Louise, even though he is allergic to her. Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(
You are a brave woman. I am scared to do Target and the ped in one day...let alone three specialists! I am keeping my fingers crossed that it isn't reflux but that it instead something nice and quick and easy.....I think singulair only comes in granule and tablet form....

Kelly, mom of two boys with GERD. John (born 11/03) was on 40mg Nexium til 15 mos old. Second son Brian (born 05/07) started on Zantac. Now on 22.5 mg Prevacid Solutabs plus Carafate 0.5 ml 1 x day
You are brave! I brought John with me once to Brian's allergist appt and we waited over an hr to see the dr and then had to wait again at the lab for blood work and I was ready to kill John by the end. John was on Singulair for a few months and it was the chewable one. Now he is off meds. I'm so glad to hear the Nissen results are so positive! That is awesome. Keep us posted about the cause of Nick's pneumonia.
