Ped GI appt tomorrow!
I am so excited for Natalie tomorrow. I hope this doctor can get us on the right track with the reflux. I know she will probally always spit up but I would do anything for her not to be in pain. What types of things do they do? What questions should you ask? Do I need to take anything? What should I expect? Heather

Mom to Charlie - cleft palate and reflux. Meds - zantac, prevacid, mylanta and reglan.
Hi Heather - if this is your first time to the ped GI, I would be prepared with information about your feeding schedule, volume taken, how often Natalie vomits and how much, is the vomit projectile, when does she vomit (right after feeding or a couple of hours later), how well she sleeps, what you feed her etc. It has been a while but I seem to recall the first visit is mainly data gathering on the doctor's part. They will do a physical exam, weigh the baby, all the usual stuff. When my son Charlie was first at the GI he did a brief rectal exam (ouch) as well. One thing I wish I knew before starting this process is that our experience has been more of an art than a science in terms of medications and treatment. We try one thing for a while and if it doesn't work we add some more of the medicine or move on to the a new one. We started off on zantac, added prevacid and recently added reglan. This has been over 6 months. We are finally starting to see progress but it has been slow. I am sure you will get some help but be aware that it may not be overnight and you have to hang in there. Our doctor is cautious and of course moves more slowly than I would like. But then I remember that we started this when Charlie was 2 months old and we need to be careful with their little bodies and medications. Good luck! Susie

Coyle Eagan. One Year Old. Doing well on Cow's Milk flavored with juice :) Drinking two bottles of Go&Grow daily. Eating solids better but still have rough days. No More Silent Reflux-that I can hear anyway.. but puking again. Zantac 2ML 2X daily.
Hi there. They will check all the vitals, weight, height (for growth).. get your background on when it started, how often it happends, type of formula or breastmilk-gen. background questions. they'll discuss medications with you. surgical options and some tests. will probably probe her belly and so forth. good luck, let us know.
Check with your
doctor first!
