Head smacking/hitting....Need opinions here
I know someone posted this a while ago, but do you think I have any functional memory capacity at the moment? Jazzy has been smacking/hitting herself lots lately, and I can't figure it out.......aside from maybe teething pain and fatigue. But she really hits herself hard, and the more I take her arm away and gentilly say "no, don't hit Jazzy" it makes it worse because she gets so upset and cries.................................................What am I suppose to do?

Jessica, Mommy to Jedd, severe reflux, severe food and oral aversions, Finally G tube free!!! VSD repair 4-24-07 (open heart surgery), hypospadias, repaired 3 times and Ear tubes Visit Jedd at his CB site: www.caringbridge.org/visit/jedd
This may just be normal kid behavior. Some times Jedd does this and then giggles with glee and then continues to do it!!! LOL

The only other thing I can think of is if she is acting like she is in pain before doing it KWIM???

For example, Jedd's scar form heart surgery...he was clawing and scratching at it after we brought him home, BTW he was NOT giggling with glee at this one....we coudln't figure out what was wrong.....

Apparetnly when an incision is healing it is itchy!!! WHO KNEW!!!! We didn't and I made a call to the PICU in the middle of the night to ge the answer....LOL

I guess the problem is she really is never pain free it seems, so I hope that she's just frustrated and not doing it for pain reasons, because she does it at least 6 times a day and again at night....

I would try to ignore it. Maybe she sees that it is getting her attention so she is going to do it more to get a reaction from you. If it gets worse then maybe it isn't just behavior. HTH

Coyle Eagan. One Year Old. Doing well on Cow's Milk flavored with juice :) Drinking two bottles of Go&Grow daily. Eating solids better but still have rough days. No More Silent Reflux-that I can hear anyway.. but puking again. Zantac 2ML 2X daily.
yep, sounds normal. mine does it when he's tired. agree with the attention thing too. i'd try and ignore it as well unless it is a tiredness cue.

Tracey, mom to Katie diagnosed with GERD at 3 week.
Katie hits herself on the metal pole on our glider outside. She hits pretty hard and looks at me to make sure that I see what she is doing. I think it's normal.

I don't know that there is anything you can do. Probably best if you ignore it. Kids have weird methods of self soothing, etc. My oldest pulled his hair (some of it right out) He eventually grew out of it. nicholas has taken to scratching his head. Some of his hair is coming out when he does this too. He only does the sides. I keep joking he's going to give himself a mohawk!!!

Kathryn, Pager Volunteer and mommy to Emily Mia 02/04/07. 3 years old with GERD. 30mg Prevacid and Pepcid AC. Mylanta needed for flares. Failed prilosec med switch. Tried and failed many med weans but GERD and pain are well controlled. Functional constipation. Reoccurring SBBO. Suspected IBD or autoimmune disease. Resolved issues: MSPI, CSID (acquired), Stage 2 kidney reflux, Chronic diarrhea.
Audrey Meadow 06/20/08. born 34/35 weeks. Still b/f and eats everything! ftt and chronic constipation.
emily does that stuff only when she is feeling bad. she used to scratch at her face and ears and hair when her reflux was really bad. when she has bad diarehea she will be more apt to hit her head on the wall or pull at her belly or smack her head. sometimes she laughs but mostly she dosen't do it b/c she thinks its funny. if i ignore it she stops and just whines at me all day...

Diagnosed A/R at 6 wks

Zoo Boo Trick-or-Treating (pic).
Mine does it and laughs but sometimes he does it when he is really angry. He knows he can't hit me or the dog so I guess that's why he does it. I grab his hands and tell him not to hit momma's baby because it makes me sad. That kind of works....soemtimes.
