Which bottles are best for reflux?
We are currently using Dr. Brown BPA free regular bottles and she seems to be doing good. Which bottles did your GI and pediatricians recommend?

Melissa - Mommy to Sebastian, born 9/28/07 @ 7 lbs 7 oz and 20.75 in. At docs at 12 months: 27 pounds and 32 in! Good grief! GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Neocate only - no solids - until further notice (drinks and loves water, too). Loves his doggie, our rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Louise, even though he is allergic to her. Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(
Hi there. Those are the only bottles we use, too. We had NO luck with any others....

This is our dd, Alessandra. Dx with GER 10/07. Ran the gamut with meds and now done with them (crossed fingers). Using magnesium, probiotics and prebiotic supplements. With the exception of teething and general sassy attitude, all is well now. They really CAN grow out of it!
We use the playtex drop ins with the latex naturalatch nipples. Works well for us.

Mom (Danie) to Adam (9-4-03) & Nate (3-7-07) Nate was diagnosed with silent AR at 2 months old. He was on neocate, prevacid 30mg per day and couldn't start solids till he was almost 8 months old. He started cow's milk at 14 months and is currently off all meds!! So far so good :) PIC: Disney trip 2008. Nate didn't know Piglet was there, he didn't like the characters too much.
I think we are the only ones who actually had luck with the Avent. However, I would definitely use the BPA free kind if I were to have another baby. I hear good things about the Born Free bottles as well (I know they are $$$ tho)

DS #1 (7/05) - Just ReDX'd Refluxer! Prevacid Solutab starting 4/8/09. Lots of food and environmental allergies. Autism, Sensory Processing Disorder, Speech Delays, Developmental Delays, Severe Muscle Tone Weakness.
DS #2 (1/08) ReDX'd refluxer. Milk and soy allergies with Soy Lecithin allergies. Oat milk drinker, Rice protein powder, DHA, and vitamins added for bulk and needed nutrition. Weak muscle tone, slightly developmentally delayed, SPD confirmed.
We are using the Born Free BPA free plastic. I liked Dr. Browns and those are what we used with our first son who was also a refluxer. But our second son has to have his formula so thick that it kept clogging the valve in the bottle. The Born Free bottles have the valve, but the holes are bigger so it allowed the formula to scoot on through.

We also use the doctor brown with the "y" nipple for the thickened formula. Works well for us. Very little gas.

Ava 5/3/05 asthma, food allergies

We used the playtex drop ins for a while and then the Gerber New Traditions natural with slow flow nipple. I have heard DR Brown's are really good. BPA free is always a good plan too. :)

Our 1 year old daughter has silent reflux, hypotonia as well as benign external hydrocephalus. We are currently weaning onto whole milk (we'll see if it works) and she is also on Prevacid 15mg per day.
We used Dr. Browns and when I added rice I cut a slit in the nipple so that the rice could get through better. I tried the ones that are made for thicker formula but it didn't work for us. Once she got a little better then I switched to the Playtex Drop Ins. I liked the Dr. Brown bottles but they're a pain to clean.

If it ain't broke don't fix it. It sounds like the Dr Browns are doing the trick. I think it is more about finding the right nipple/ flow then the brand for reflux.

Well the reason I ask is for my DD #1 who also had reflux we used Avent but since they weren't BPA free I went for the Dr. Browns but I hate messing with all of those parts. Plus she leaks tons with the slow flow, premie and size 2, it just leaks out the sides. Anyway, today in BRU there were AVENT Bpa free and I was like dang now they get them. So I bought some and I think I T''ed her off as she drank about an ounce and then cried, though she wouldn't take her Dr. Browns then either. Finally after a screaming fit she let out three huge burps and went to sleep. So I don't know if she hated the Avent nipple, to try it again or to stay with the Dr. Browns. I just hate all of those pieces as around here bottles maynot get rinsed right away and I feel like there is crude after it sits over night in all of those pieces. Heather

Well she didn't take the Avent last night but took it at 3 am and then at 7:30 too. She does so much better with the wide Avent nipple, no leaky/drippy mouth. She also didn't fuss 1/2 way through so the slow flow was a good enough flow. On the Dr. Browns I went up to the next size because she fussed but then the faster flow messed with her reflux. I am so excited and can't wait to hunt down the bigger size or I will have to wait until Tuesday to get more.
Check with your
doctor first!
