Pictured: G'mom w/3 kids. I'm mom to 1 angel Melissa (dec'd 11/92 - hypoplastic left-heart syn.)
2 healthy daughters (knock wood) Cory (16), Kim (11) & Eric (4) diagnosed with e.e. (scoped 8/08), GERD & severe food/seasonal allergies, asthma. Cried non-stop first 17 mths. of life Found out he is allergic to cow's milk, soy, eggs, and peanuts. Takes Prevacid, Neocate One Plus & Flovent.
Scared To Death of Test Coming in 19 Days
Eric is to be put under to have his second endoscopy (he's 2 1/2 now, first was when he was 11 mths.) and this time they are also doing a sigmoidoscopy. I would have been nervous anyway, but they GI Dr. said they would have to watch him more carefully because of his allergies/asthma with the aniseisia (sp.). I feel guilty for even pushing for more testing, but we still have pain, whiney behavior, swallowing noises, constipation issues, & choking on small pieces of food. This is really to see if he has ee or if it is all reflux related. He wants to go further down (sigmoidoscopy) while they are already in there. Sounds like more of a chance to puncture something to me. In Nov. he will also get the swallow test w/barium and speech. I hope this answers some questions for us, but I pray I'm not risking his life unneccesarily. Please keep him in your thoughts. He has been through so much already. Ellen

What an ordeal. It is never an easy decision to do testing. I will keep him( and you ) in my prayers. Let us know how it turns out.

This is our dd, Alessandra. Dx with GER 10/07. Ran the gamut with meds and now done with them (crossed fingers). Using magnesium, probiotics and prebiotic supplements. With the exception of teething and general sassy attitude, all is well now. They really CAN grow out of it!
The sigmoid will go through the other end, and it's the last part of the colon, so it's not going that far. Good luck - I think the MD's just like to lay it all out on the line, so don't freak out too much. It's better to know than not to!!! Prayers and hugs!

Melissa - Mommy to Sebastian, born 9/28/07 @ 7 lbs 7 oz and 20.75 in. At docs at 12 months: 27 pounds and 32 in! Good grief! GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Neocate only - no solids - until further notice (drinks and loves water, too). Loves his doggie, our rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Louise, even though he is allergic to her. Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(
Hi Ellen. Sebastian had both of thse tests at the end of June and while I nearly lost my mind, little man did fine. I don't think he remembers it at all. I had to watch him go under and it was terrible, but at least we know what his problems are now. Try to think of it as one day of testing in exchange for some CRUCIAL answers. Let me know if you want any specifics...Sebastian is being a little monkey (I will use a kind word, but that is not really the comparison I am drawing in my head) today and I get no mommy time to type...better go

Mom (Danie) to Adam (9-4-03) & Nate (3-7-07) Nate was diagnosed with silent AR at 2 months old. He was on neocate, prevacid 30mg per day and couldn't start solids till he was almost 8 months old. He started cow's milk at 14 months and is currently off all meds!! So far so good :) PIC: Disney trip 2008. Nate didn't know Piglet was there, he didn't like the characters too much.
Oh Ellen, I hope you can get the answers you so deserve after all this. I am keeping you in my prayers. Please update us when you can!

Coyle Eagan. One Year Old. Doing well on Cow's Milk flavored with juice :) Drinking two bottles of Go&Grow daily. Eating solids better but still have rough days. No More Silent Reflux-that I can hear anyway.. but puking again. Zantac 2ML 2X daily.
i sure hope the tests give you some much needed answers. maybe you can talk to the anethesiaologist a few days prior to the procedure so you can ease your mind that they are "aware" of his allergies and can assure you that they won't use anything he can react to. i'll be thinking of you both.
