Your Thoughts Please
Coy is having his Upper GI in the morning. I had to have his blood drawn this afternoon and he screamed so hard that he has petechiae now. So, i'm not looking forward to this exam. Please hope that it goes okay for him. He's like his mama-doesn't do well with these things. thanks!

Lorenzo b.4/25/07 1 week in NICU w/ aspirate pneumonia from a reflux episode; diagnosed GERD at 9weeks; Used Zantac for 5months. Currently using Chinese Medicine and Craniosacral Therapy. GERD, Obstructive Sleep Apnea, Sensory Processing Disorder. Ask me about breastfeeding a refluxer! Pic: day 5 in the NICU.
I'll be thinking of you... WE just went through a pH probe with Lorenzo, and I was absolutely dreading it. In all honesty, it was an ordeal, but I think a lot of what was hard for me was that my mind exists in the past, present and future. It became clear pretty quickly that Lorenzo really exists primarily in the present. He was horribly unhappy during procedures, but within minutes he was happy as could be and seemed unfazed by thoughts of what he had just been through.

Hang in there...it's never easy to watch our little ones go through difficult or upsetting events, but you will both come out of it just fine!

well, that was not pleasent. I'm under the impression that the radiologists are devils @ our children's hospital. the test was nothing like i thought it would be. 1st, we walked into an imaging room that was just like the one in which they tried (unsuccefully) to cath coyle was he was 4 mo. old. i saw the board with the straps and thought *oh no!* so, she tells me that they have to strap him down ( of course) and FORCE FEED him the barium. I'm like, huh? i've talked to others who've not described this. I even brought a sippy and a bubba since i was under the impression that he could just drink it that way. so, i'm thinking ok fine we will do it your way. lets just get started. so she straps him down, everything but the arms, for the 1st x-ray. not so bad. he started to cry the minute he got on the table tho. he's no dummy, my boy. well, then she tells me we have to strap his arms above his head and then she's going to give him the solution after the doctor comes in. i'm praying please don't make us wait. thankfully, he was there within a minute. they start the test and he's crying the entire time-he sucked a little but then gagged. the worst part was he kept turning him sideways to get a lateral picture. he would quiet down and then start screaming when he turned him. coy wouldn't even let me comfort him by rubbing his legs or anything. i felt horrible, just horrible. this lasted 15 min. why do they have to do the test this way?

well, the doctor said he has no structural abnormality from the duodenum up-so i guess that is good. he walked in tho and said "we're checking for reflux" and i said "no, he puked on me this morning and silent refluxes all day long so that is proof enough for me"... i told him the doc. said we are checking for structural abnormalities only.. so of course, coy doesn't reflux but he was on an empty stomach and drank only 25 ccs of barium. i don't think he'd reflux an ounces anyway

the bloodwork last night did not go well either and we have to get one more vial. at our appt. in 6 wks the doctor is going to discuss a scope for EE/EOS.. i don't know what to do.

thanks for listening and your thoughts.. he was fine after we left :) and is taking a nap now.

Oh the poor boy and poor you! They didn't strap Abby down at all for her upper GI. She just laid on the table and drank the bottle and then she would turn her for a different angle. That lady does sound like the devil, LOL! And we never saw a doctor. Well glad that they didn't find anything wrong. But it is tough when you still don't have answers. HUGS!

((HUGS)) I was so upset about how the people we dealt with at the hospital for Lorenzo's tests treated him and us that I felt like I never wanted anything to do with western medicine again. I don't understand why people can't just have a little compassion and patience, and realize that they are working with people who have feelings and fears and rights. It makes me so mad!!!!! I'm sorry that it went so rough, but I'm glad Coy is still a present-living little person and seems to have left it behind him :)

Poor thing. We had a similar experience with an x-ray tech and the pica stat... as in my kids are plenty old enough to stand for the x-rays to be shot. I discussed it with the DR, nicely but firmly (you know me) and the next time I came for an x-ray the tech was much better. Then the DR even remembered to ask me if the visit was better this time. LOL. Of course, my dh grew up with this DR so that helps. I would def talk to them, maybe they could be more understanding for the next kido!!

Poor baby. Glad that ordeal is over and that they found nothing structurally wrong. How heartbreaking it must have been for you to watch him go through that.
Check with your
doctor first!
