Mathias endoscopy update
I got all of the results from Mathias endoscopy and lab stuff. The good news - no EE, the biopsy from his esophagus is clean, all lab work for enzyme issues came back clean, RAST tests came back negative, his IgE is 18, just a little higher than normal but nothing to worry about. The bad news (and I am VERY thankful for an answer) is that he does have Bile Reflux Gastritis (i am going to have to research this one). We will do a re-check in 3 months to see how he is doing on the new meds. So far we are seeing progress so I will keep my fingers crossed. We don't know what is causing it though. The GI did address his dairy allergy and she suspects that it is a type II or type III allergy based on his reactions. Can anyone recommend a website or book that might explain the differences or if I need to look into it further? Thanks!

Coyle Eagan. One Year Old. Doing well on Cow's Milk flavored with juice :) Drinking two bottles of Go&Grow daily. Eating solids better but still have rough days. No More Silent Reflux-that I can hear anyway.. but puking again. Zantac 2ML 2X daily.
hi there. sorry to read about the bile reflux. i've heard of this and know that it is doubly painful. sometimes coy vomits bile too.. it is horrible. what new meds is he on. the type II or type III allergies has to do with different aprt of the immune system-specifically ImM or IgG.. FPIES, MSPI, etc. fall into this category. many allergists are 'butt-heads' in believing that they exist. the retard allergist we saw said that they aren't even "true" allergies... which is nonsense. Do a google-lots of info. you can go to kidswithfoodallergies.org or you could always go see the love of melissa's life.... Johnny Depp.. aka Dr. Robert Wood

hehe...Thanks a bunch for the information!!! I will check it out. I have a feeling that the allergists here wouldn't know boo about it. Maybe I will have to take a trip and visit Johnny. :) I can think of a couple of people that would love if I took a trip to the east coast. Mathias just started Carafate to help with the lining of the stomach (supposed to help ulcers heal) and Zegerid. Libby btw...I love your siggy pic!

Donnessa, mom to Halley born 3/10/07
Reflux (mostly) resolved at 14 months
and Addison born 8/17/09. Currently exclusively bf and on 7.5mg Prevacid
Poor guy! I'm glad that you are finally getting some answers, though. Hopefully the Carafate will help out - it's been a miracle thing for a lot of the kiddos on here. Good luck finding a allergist...maybe Melissa could ask Dr. Wood for a physician in your area?

Melissa - Mommy to Sebastian, born 9/28/07 @ 7 lbs 7 oz and 20.75 in. At docs at 12 months: 27 pounds and 32 in! Good grief! GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Neocate only - no solids - until further notice (drinks and loves water, too). Loves his doggie, our rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Louise, even though he is allergic to her. Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(
Great news about the clean scope and NO EE! Hooray! You must be relieved. I don't know anything about bile reflux, but one of the kiddos on here I want to say it is Aubrey (that is probably wrong) has kidney reflux...maybe her mommy can point you in the right direction? I have no idea if they are similar. As for the Type II & III allergies, I'm not familiar with either, but I'll look them up. I just know about oral allergy syndrome, type 1 (IgE) and Type 4 (non-IgE mediated/ a.k.a delayed GI reaction). Congrats again!! How did he do during the procedure?

He did really well for the whole thing. Definitely scared before but no crying or screaming. He even went into the OR with a ride in a little red wagon with his teddy bear by himself. He had a bit of a hard time coming out after the procedure - he wanted to keep sleeping - but he was in good spirits when we left. According to his GI vomiting and diarrhea are related to type II and III responses. The one thing that is starting to perplex me, after doing some research, is that bile reflux usually occurs after gi surgery. He's never had any surgeries so I am left wondering why is it occurring.
Check with your
doctor first!
