ethan's mom
Meridith
Mom to Ethan, born 4/23/08. Diagnosed with Reflux at about 1 month, started medicating with Zantac, which wasn't helpful for us. At about 2.5 months, we started on Prevacid, twice a day, and that is working much better.
Ethan is breastfed and has a few solids that he is enjoying very much.
? for the TED moms
So I started on the TED yesterday, beginning with lunch, and I am seeing some different things with Ethan already. I know that it won't work this quickly, but I am wondering if you have experienced this when you made the change. Since yesterday afternoon, Ethan has wanted to eat tons. He normally wakes twice in the night to eat, if the reflux isn't acting up. Last night, he was up four times and has wanted to eat at least every two hours since then. I suppose it could be a growth spurt, or the beginning of teething. . . Any thoughts?

Tracey, mom to Katie diagnosed with GERD at 3 week.
HI! I didn't need to eliminate milk, only spicy, caffeine etc. but I would think if it eating doesn't hurt his tummy he might be willing to eat. It could be a growth spurt too but they told me Zantac would take a few weeks to work and we noticed a huge improvement within a day or so. Hope he does better with eliminating problem foods!!

I saw some good results quickly when removing the gas causing foods and spicy stuff. The allergens seemed to take longer to get out of the milk... I think maybe a couple of weeks. I guess it depends on what was causing the problem?

Lorenzo b.4/25/07 1 week in NICU w/ aspirate pneumonia from a reflux episode; diagnosed GERD at 9weeks; Used Zantac for 5months. Currently using Chinese Medicine and Craniosacral Therapy. GERD, Obstructive Sleep Apnea, Sensory Processing Disorder. Ask me about breastfeeding a refluxer! Pic: day 5 in the NICU.
I also noticed immediate changes with regard to gas causing foods, so if that has been a problem, he may indeed be feeling better. Also, it is very common for breastfed babies to go through major increases in nursing at about his age -- there's lots of physical and cognitive development going on, and in addition to needing all the nutrients they can get, many BF babies seek out the comfort of that connection with mama when things are getting busy inside :)
