Melissa - Mommy to Sebastian, born 9/28/07 @ 7 lbs 7 oz and 20.75 in. At docs at 12 months: 27 pounds and 32 in! Good grief! GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Neocate only - no solids - until further notice (drinks and loves water, too). Loves his doggie, our rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Louise, even though he is allergic to her. Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(
Quick Sebastian update
Hi everyone. Ok - I have been successfully pirating the neighbor's internet for close to 24 hours now...and it hasn't crapped out since Monday night. Hooray! I am back! (Or I will be tonight after little man is asleep). Looking forward ot catching up.

So I finally talked to Dr. Wood this a.m.. Turns out that the flavoring in the Omnicef suspension has cream in it...and on the package it just says "strawbeerry flavoring" - which is whyt he pharmacist did not flag it. Last night, Sebastian woke up to eat at 1:30. I fed him and put him back to bed. He woke up screaming five minutes later. I went in to see what was wrong, and he had had a MAJOR diarrhea poop. While I was changing him, he projectile puked across the room (yay for Pergo floors! Much better than carpet for pukers!). He proceeded to puke all night long. I changed his sheets five times, and then I ran out of sheets. I did laundry at 4 a.m. He finaly stopped puking (EIGHT big pukes...five in bed, two on me, one on Larry) at 6...very considerate, since I was at a loss about the sheets. Today, he is fine.

So basically, the red streaks are from the Omnicef suspension (Cefdinir). The mucus is from the reaction to the cream flavoring; also, Omnicef is cultured on soy, so that could be a contributing factor. The vomiting and diarrhea (which was brownish green last night and NOT the slightest bit red) are an allergic reaction. SIGH. So no more antibiotics for a few days and if his sinus infection is still going full force (which is probably will be), we will be trying Augmentum (Augmentin?) because the flavoring is dairy and soy free. And what is cool is that Dr. Wood wants us to call him every time we are prescribed a new med so he can clear it before we give it to Sebastian.

Oh, AND JUST IN CASE I NEEDED CONFIRMATION THAT OUR GI IS A MORON (Hey, I could be a GI @ Hopkins), she told my husband yesterday that blood in the stoolis very normal for kids on antibiotics and jsut to take him to the ped to make sure he has no butt fissures, BUT NOT TO STOP THE ANTIBIOTICS. I swear, Louise is going to be going overtime for her Christmas present. Time to break out the corn for the dog. (Sorry - GROSS, I know, but with all the poop I deal with, it doesn't phase me in the least anymore).

The good news? Bassy is practicing his Ms and is screaming now and saying "Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm"....maybe "Mommy" is on the horizon!

This is our dd, Alessandra. Dx with GER 10/07. Ran the gamut with meds and now done with them (crossed fingers). Using magnesium, probiotics and prebiotic supplements. With the exception of teething and general sassy attitude, all is well now. They really CAN grow out of it!
Poor guy and poor mommy! I'm so glad you have a doc on your side! Louise is going to have her work cut out for her if you keep running into moronic medical types. If you really want to leave a great present, try ginger snaps followed by summer sausage! (Thanks to my dad, we know all to well what happens after THAT treat!)

Our 1 year old daughter has silent reflux, hypotonia as well as benign external hydrocephalus. We are currently weaning onto whole milk (we'll see if it works) and she is also on Prevacid 15mg per day.
Melissa- You'll be a doctor after all this! I didn't realize you even have to be careful about the ingredients in syrup flavorings for meds as well as meds having soy or dairy stuff in them. I am allergic to Augmentin (PCN) and that didn't start till I was 21! I had hives all over and couldn't breathe. Nice time back in the day! Not. At least you got some answers and have a doctor that is willing to work as a team which is majorly important! I've cleaned up poop so much in my life when I worked in the hospital that it doesn't phase me one bit. LOL. So I guess you don't watch the Hopkins show these days, huh? :P Keira is doing that taradactyl thing lately with screaming for fun. Wow my ears get sore from that. She thinks it's great. For a baby that's sensitive to noise-you'd think THAT would bother her! ;)

Coyle Eagan. One Year Old. Doing well on Cow's Milk flavored with juice :) Drinking two bottles of Go&Grow daily. Eating solids better but still have rough days. No More Silent Reflux-that I can hear anyway.. but puking again. Zantac 2ML 2X daily.
man, what a week for you guys. that poor kiddo. i'm so glad that you have a wonderful advocate for your son now. if he had seen my doctors you would have been told it was the 24 hour flu since allergic reactions aren't just vomiting and diarrhea. i can't believe she told you blood is normal. normal? u lookin for a new doc too?

Jennifer - 1st time mom. Lauren (6/1/07) diagnosed 9/07 with GER at 3 1/2 months. Prevacid 7.5 mg in the am. Currently drinking whole milk and eating great!!
No longer aspirating! Yippee!
Picture: Why would Lauren play with the hundreds of dollars worth of toys scattered in my living room?!?! When she could play in a box! Estimated move date: Oct. 3rd!
Oh my! Well, I am glad to hear that the red poop is just from the Omnicef, but why would they give you something that is cultured in soy and contains cream!!! JEZZ! I think calling Dr. Wood anytime he's prescribed something is a great idea. I was still concerned about the mucus last night...Hopefully the augmentin will do the trick. I have a friend who's little guy is a lot like Bassy and he has to have all his antibiotics injected in a shot form because he gets a reaction from EVERYTHING :(

Blood in the stools is normal? I have never, never heard of that one.

Oh, the yelling of Mommy is a double edged sword...wonderful to you ears, but there are days when I wish Lauren would pick a new word too :)

katiesmommy
Tracey, mom to Katie diagnosed with GERD at 3 week.

If blood were normal in stool why on earth would they test it for blood? That is def. a new one.

So glad that he is doing better! I can't believe that they are still culturing in soy with so many allergies out there! I always check for corn but didn't think to check for soy.....and the flavoring is cream??? WTH!!??? Good thing he doesn't go into anaphalysis over soy!

Katie went through her high pitched screaming phase and we can't believe that with her throat as potentially as raw as it was that she would do it. We called her dolphin because it was super high and expected dogs around us to start howling! LOL

Mom (Danie) to Adam (9-4-03) & Nate (3-7-07) Nate was diagnosed with silent AR at 2 months old. He was on neocate, prevacid 30mg per day and couldn't start solids till he was almost 8 months old. He started cow's milk at 14 months and is currently off all meds!! So far so good :) PIC: Disney trip 2008. Nate didn't know Piglet was there, he didn't like the characters too much.
The blood thing in the stool is just crazy...never heard that it was "normal" before. Thanks for the update!!
Check with your
doctor first!
