Cooper has thrush (as do I!!!)
Well, on Thursday, after a terrible reflux flare the day before, I noticed the tell tell white rash all in Cooper's mouth. I since have gotten it on my nipples. It is so awful. He is being a total grouch and wanting to nurse all the time. And my nipples hurt so bad it is the last thing I want to do. I had been on cipro for my bladder/kidney issues and it gave him the thrush. We are using nastatin, but I am in so much pain. Any ideas? I am pretty miserable. Nursing may well be the death of me! Last night was awful, he woke to many times to count and I was in so much pain. I think I'm going to call the pedi tomorrow and see if I can get some diflucan or something. This really stinks!

Donnessa, mom to Halley born 3/10/07
Reflux (mostly) resolved at 14 months
and Addison born 8/17/09. Currently exclusively bf and on 7.5mg Prevacid
OUCH! I had thrush when I was bfing Halley and it was so painful. A couple of things that I did was buy a nipple shield (it's a piece of silicon that fits over and protects the area around your nipple) and I also made sure that I used olive oil on my nipple area if I was pumping so it wouldn't damage the skin even more. The other thing that REALLY helped was to run around without my bra and shirt on to keep the area dry. I didn't have any luck with the Nystantin - hopefully you will.

Picture: This is what happens when you raise a kid on health food and they get ahold of a Coke! Bad mom, that soda is NOT on the reflux diet.
UPDATE: Isaiah is now 12 and off meds! He is doing great, eating again and hopefully will be catching up in the growing department. I am still in the "hoping it sticks" phase, but we're so happy that he's better!
OUCH! I think I heard that letting the area air out (no bra, no shirt whenever you can get away with it) helps. Also, I had terrible cracked nipples with Sarah and I used nipple shields when I helped a lot. You can get them from the lactation store. Hope you're both better soon!

Tracey, mom to Katie diagnosed with GERD at 3 week.
Oh Mollybeth I am so sorry! I know that you are a b/f champ and will pray that this passes quickly or that you will at least get relief quickly!!!

Sorry to hear it. Diflucan was the only thing that got rid of thrush when my first born had it. I had a touch of it while pregnant with Nicholas and was able to get it to go away by eating plain yogurt. I have also found that acidophilus (which is what's in the yogurt) supplements help to get rid of it. maybe if you ate the yogurt/took the acidophilus it would help??? I have also heard of people putting the plain yogurt on the affected area. Do what you will with that one. Good luck. Hope it all clears up soon!

Ava 5/3/05 asthma, food allergies

Probiotics are a good idea IMO for you and Cooper. I always take them when on antibiotics. Don't take them within 2 hours of your anti dose or they will not work.

Any better today? Poor thing!!
Check with your
doctor first!
