Rory Update
Hi Everyone, I'm so sorry I've not been around to post much. I am a complete zombie. For the last 5 nights, Rory has not slept well, waking and screaming, off and on every 20 minutes or so. I get her settled and as soon as I lay down, she's screaming again. It's the same as it was when she was off prevacid. She isn't teething anymore. She just got a bunch of teeth and was vomiting pretty regularly, but the vomiting has stopped so I'm pretty sure the teeth are through.

Here's the kicker. SHE'S EATING!!!! She eats the same thing everyday, although sometimes the quantity varies. It's still not much, but the fact that she LETS ME FEED HER is fabulous!!! This consistent eating has been going on as long as the sleepless nights, which leads me to believe she is having stomach cramps. That, and the gas she is passing and the scrunching up of her body at night. So, do you think that could be it? Mike thinks its not a particular food but the fact that her body is getting used to food. I'm not so sure.

I don't want to cut anything out, but if you suspect a particular thing is causing the problem, I could trial and see. If this keeps up though, I'll be calling the doc. I hate seeing her in pain. She is stooling normally. In fact, it's the first time she has had solidish stool. It's always runny because she's been mostly on formula.

She eats 1/2 egg yolk mixed with cream cheese and 1/8 whole wheat toast for breakfast. Snacktime she eats a few small pieces of bologna and cheese. Lunch is 1 to 2 tbsp canned cream of chicken soup mixed with pureed pork and veggies, afternoon snack is Gerber lil' crunchies and cheerios and supper is 1 to 2 tbsp boiled potatoes and carrots, blended with whipping cream and butter and a couple small bites of yogurt.

Keep in mind, her last meal is usually at 5pm, and she doesn't start to wake until after 11pm, so could it even be an issue of digestion 7 hours later??

I'm so not used to not sleeping. It's really hard because she is so active during the day. :(

Oh, and I forgot to tell you all....the daycare is going to accommodate us as needed because her issues are medical/behavioural. The feeding clinic said to tell them she is NOT just picky, that it's not a matter of pears over bananas, that she hasn't progressed to be able to handle their menu because of GERD. So the co-ordinator said that we will see how she adapts and they will freeze the food she can eat, like if it's soup or spaghetti, and if she still can't eat most of the menu, we can bring her soup cubes...hopefully by Sept. 17, it won't be as much of an issue. She is really doing well!! But Mommy won't be able to go to work on NO sleep, so hopefully we get this tummy thing figured out!!!!

I don't know what to tell you Michelle. I'm sorry that she is in pain at night. If you give her mylanta or something does it settle her tummy. I tend to agree with Mike that her body isn't used to digesting food. It really su*#$ that now that she if finally willing to eat it hurts her so. I feel so bad for the lil peanut. I wish I had an answer for you.

The only thing I can think of is the trouble digesting hypothesis too! I know she has been eating (or "eating") those types of foods for a long time. Glad you got the daycare menu sorted out.

Jennifer - 1st time mom. Lauren (6/1/07) diagnosed 9/07 with GER at 3 1/2 months. Prevacid 7.5 mg in the am. Currently drinking whole milk and eating great!!
No longer aspirating! Yippee!
Picture: Why would Lauren play with the hundreds of dollars worth of toys scattered in my living room?!?! When she could play in a box! Estimated move date: Oct. 3rd!
I am so happy that she's letting you feed her!!! It's a wonderful feeling, isn't it?! I wonder if her stomach just isn't used to all that food, like Mike said. It'll be interesting to hear what the doctor has to say. I hope you get some sleep today while she naps maybe!

Connor 11/22/02
Grace 7/2/04 reflux free now!
Molly 7/10/07 the reason I'm here!
This happened to my dd when she was much younger and just starting solids. We cut back on her solids, which I'm sure you don't want to do given Rory's age. I also gave her the mylanta with added simethicone to help with the gas and settle her stomach when she would wake up. It works quickly, and if I gave it to her the first time she woke up, sometimes it would help enough to let her sleep the rest of the night. My doctor said I could give it up to 4 times in a 24 hour period, as long as it wasn't within 2 hours of her regular medicine. I hope she starts sleeping better soon.

Tried and failed many med weans but GERD and pain are well controlled. Functional constipation. Reoccurring SBBO. Suspected IBD or autoimmune disease. Resolved issues: MSPI, CSID (acquired), Stage 2 kidney reflux, Chronic diarrhea.
Audrey Meadow 06/20/08. born 34/35 weeks. Still b/f and eats everything! ftt and chronic constipation.
emily went through a period like that for about a month and don't tell mike this- but in emily's case he was right. it was her belly getting used to digesting foods. The GI told us it could be weeks of that when quantity and variety of foods are introduced. I hope it dosen't last that long for you guys! *hugs*

Tracey, mom to Katie diagnosed with GERD at 3 week.
Could it be the whipping cream and butter for dinner? That might be a little too much fat for her to sleep on? I know you don't want to cut it out since she needs the fat. If I have shrimp scampi for dinner I pay for it all night. Just a thought.

Mom (Danie) to Adam (9-4-03) & Nate (3-7-07) Nate was diagnosed with silent AR at 2 months old. He was on neocate, prevacid 30mg per day and couldn't start solids till he was almost 8 months old. He started cow's milk at 14 months and is currently off all meds!! So far so good :) PIC: Disney trip 2008. Nate didn't know Piglet was there, he didn't like the characters too much.
