In response re: Elyse's drinking problem (lol)
A bunch of you asked on a previous post about how Elyse is doing with the amount she is drinking. Lately she has been doing a low day then a normal day. Low being 5-8 oz formula and high being around 14. Plus some water or juice (about 2-4 oz a day total). She also eats fruit everyday so she is getting hydration from that. She still has the rash from the milk, but she seems to only get a reaction now to corn and whole milk. She is rarely spitting/throwing up now, so that's great! I will ask the GI about the 2% milk but I am very hesitant bc I know she needs the extra fat. If she will eat an alternative that has fat, I would be more okay with it. I am still hesitant about trying eggs, but I think the yolk would be a good substitute. She won't eat avocado anymore.

Thanks for the update. I was thinking of her and hoping she was doing better. I'm glad she still likes her fruit. That helps a lot.

I'm glad she is doing better. Having highs and lows is so frustrating, but hopefully she will normalize eventually. It still seems like a low amount to me, but if she's gaining weight, I can see your point about not worrying too much, especially if she's staying hydrated. As far as the milk, I agree she needs extra fat. I know you're scared of eggs, but if she likes them, you can do soooo many things with them and add stuff to them too, in addition to them being high in protein. Right now, we are having good results with egg yolk mashed with cream cheese. You can even form it into little balls to pop in her mouth. We've done it both ways, the balls and the spoon, and sometimes Rory will gag on them cause there is usually too much on the spoon and it can be dry. She doesn't much like it with milk. You can also do scrambled/omelets with good stuff hidden in it, like pureed veggies or cheese. I hope she continues to pick up. That little girl of yours had me so worried. I do know how you feel, having been there during the difficult bottle days. It's a good thing you know your little girl!!! HUGS!

Jennifer - 1st time mom. Lauren (6/1/07) diagnosed 9/07 with GER at 3 1/2 months. Prevacid 7.5 mg in the am. Currently drinking whole milk and eating great!!
No longer aspirating! Yippee!
Picture: Why would Lauren play with the hundreds of dollars worth of toys scattered in my living room?!?! When she could play in a box! Estimated move date: Oct. 3rd!
Our GI told us not to give Lauren juice and water because it would be filling and it's not really any calories or fat. Lauren ONLY gets milk. I know you don't want her to get dehydrated though...I hope her milk rash goes away soon!

I like the eggs and cream cheese idea :) Jennifer, the reason I DO give water and juice is because she often WON'T drink her formula (and we found we have to wait on the milk, she got a bad rash). And she only drinks around 4 oz in an entire day of water/juice, so I don't think it's filling her up too much (I know what you mean though, and it took forever before I let her have juice because I wanted that formula in her!!)

Donnessa, mom to Halley born 3/10/07
Reflux (mostly) resolved at 14 months
and Addison born 8/17/09. Currently exclusively bf and on 7.5mg Prevacid
Will she eat cheese? That's what we've been using to help provide extra fat since Halley can't tolerate whole milk. You could also mix butter into her foods if you're not already.

cheese is a good idea! Lauren loves shredded cheddar, but I have to but the "fancy" shred or she won't touch it...

Tracey, mom to Katie diagnosed with GERD at 3 week.
What about Goat's milk? I know that allergist say that if you are allergic to cow's milk then you most likely are to goat's too but my dad couldn't drink cow milk but tolerated goat. They actually had a goat so it wasn't pasturized or anything. Maybe it was the amount that she had at once? I know she had elecare and it is made from corn; are you now seeing a reaction to corn? We can really only do the premade liquid Alimentum because it is the only one not made from corn.

Yup, Elecare has some kind of corn derivative in it but she does fine with that. When we give her actual pieces of corn, or in the past, baby food with corn, she would get a rash very quickly. Elecare also has soy oil in it, and she tolerated that but not anything else with soy in it for a long time. My (totally uneducated) theory is that the makers of elecare, a medical food, are a lot more careful about separating the soy protein from the oil than are nabisco and kraft, etc, LOL. Donessa and Jennifer, Elyse gets one mozarella cheese stick everyday, and she LOVES it. Cheese and cheerios are the only 2 foods that she will almost ALWAYS eat.
