Mom (Danie) to Adam (9-4-03) & Nate (3-7-07) Nate was diagnosed with silent AR at 2 months old. He was on neocate, prevacid 30mg per day and couldn't start solids till he was almost 8 months old. He started cow's milk at 14 months and is currently off all meds!! So far so good :) PIC: Disney trip 2008. Nate didn't know Piglet was there, he didn't like the characters too much.
allergic reaction to meds...ear tubes
Hey guys. I took Adam to immediate care on Tuesday. He was running a fever for 3 days. They said his throat was red, and the ear that the tube is LODGED in could be causing him some discomfort (ya think?)

Anyway, I am tired of different answers. I love our ENT but he said they want the tube to fall out naturally, or it has to be surgically removed. I am NOT putting him under for them to take the darn tube out. The urgent care dr said "why don't they floss it out?" I was like, I don't know?? He said he would do it. He didn't want to do it that day since Adam was clearly running a fever and not doing too good. That makes more sense to me...get the darn tube OUT...it is mangled up in a HUGE ball of wax, I got to see for myself!

OK...back to the real reason for this post, lol. He gave us a scrip for amox since he has tolerated it a few years back. Today, he has raised bumps all over his belly and back (hives???) I am new to this whole rash thing. I called them...I am to stop the amox, give benedryl and swith to zithromax (which has worked in the past) Any of you have experience with this hive thing?? My poor guy...he is itchy all over :( Can I rub a lotion on it?

You can try the Benedryl creme also but not if you have gave the Benedryl by mouth w/i 6 hrs. A lady just told me yesterday (I haven't tried it yet) to try a bath in water and a bottle of Mylanta. I have an allergic reaction right now to shaving gel and she said it works wonders. No time here to soak.. only a quick shower. If you try let me know if it works for future info.

As for the tube... Maddie's ENT has pulled her tubes out serveral times in the office while she was awake there on the table even when she was Adam's age. What is wrong with the ENT??? It is probably hurting him worse lodged in there than an infection. Praying for you. Maybe a good shampooing will wash it out but then there you risk anoth infection.. KWIM???

Jasmine had the hives with Amox. and after that we have always used Zithromax. I would try hydrocortizone cream. That is what I used on her chronic hives and it helps a lot. I hope it clears up fast. Does he still have a fever? Poor guy. I've been thinking of you and him.

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
I guess you remember my 67,000 posts about hives, lol. The pics prob aren't on here any more. I deleted them from photobucket. Call me! When Mags had them, she was itty bitty and they didn't seem to bother her. I didn't have to do anything but wait on them to go away.

Poor Adam! Do you see Dr. Barody as your ENT? I don't really have any suggestions, just sorry he's having so much trouble!

Well, the hives are already sstarting to go away. He pretty much conked out from the benedryl...I'll have to remember that (JUST KIDDING, lol) I am gonna schedule an appt for next week with the urgent care dr. He said it will be billed as a "follow up" which is a HUGE relief...seeing as how we pay out of pocket for EVERYTHING :( THanks for all your responses...I almost forgot about Mags having the hives, the things we BLOCK out of our minds!!

So is Adam's tube still in the eardrum? When Donnie saw the pediatrician on June 30 she said that his left tube is no longer in the eardrum but is in some wax and hasn't yet reached the ear canal. I have yet to see the thing come out. Donnie has had his tubes now for nearly a year and a half (16 months total). I am wondering about the wax thing and it coming out on its own now. Will you let us know how that turns out? I am curious because it sounds like what Donnie's tube has done. Hope he feels better soon!!! -Liz
