Jodi, first time mom to baby Mason born at 28 weeks 12-10-07. He has GERD, DGE, MSPI, ?food allergies, and hypotonia (starts PT end of July). On Neocate (thickened with Simply Thick) and on prevacid and EES. Home apnea/bradycardia monitor d/c'd finally at 7 months!
Allergy Stuff
Since there has been a lot (it seems) of allergy talk lately I thought I'd post about our allergy appointment. Mason has had delayed reactions to all solids-eczema, diarrhea, gas, colic, disrupted sleep, eye redness. swelling, and tearing. He becomes a very unhappy child with solids then back to himself 4 days after they've been stopped. We saw allergy today and it was, I think, largely a waste of time. The doctor did not listen to me. She asked the same questions over and over. For example, we had just gone through a detailed list of formulas we've tried and his reaction then how great he does on all neocate which he's been on since March. She starts her physical exam and asks what formula we are using. Are you kidding me? She does NOT explain non-IgE mediated allergies to me even though his symptoms are classic of that. Then really doesn't seem to be prepared to have a discussion about it when I ask her. She did the blood test looking for the common (IgE mediated) offenders which I don't know why I let her do b/c I expect them to be negative. She encouraged me to re-introduce solids ASAP avoiding grains of all kinds and sticking with fruits and veggies. Other allergists at Children's have a several month wait list so a second opinion will not be easy to get if that's what I decide to do. I don't know how to proceed at this point. I see why she did not have a wait list. I wish I could take him to Sebastian's doc! I did double check that he didn't need to be off of the prevacid and they said no, just no antihistamines (benadryl, claritin, zyrtec, zantac). Hope that last info. helps some of you with appointments coming up. I think our little Baili dog could make some presents for her lol!

Melissa - Mommy to Sebastian, born 9/28/07 @ 7 lbs 7 oz and 20.75 in. At docs at 12 months: 27 pounds and 32 in! Good grief! GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Neocate only - no solids - until further notice (drinks and loves water, too). Loves his doggie, our rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Louise, even though he is allergic to her. Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(
Sorry your allergist sucks. Our first never listened to a word we said, either. Our second was wonderful - he is the one who referred us to Dr. Wood. If I were you, I'd do two things (insert standard disclaimer here: I am not a doctor, but this is what works for us). First, I'd take him off solids for at least a month or so. He doesn't NEED them, and he will learn to eat them eventually. Even without an adjusted age, he is still very young and has enough going on with his belly right now. There's no rush, you know? (Sebastian will be 10 months on Monday and is off all solids; he is happy and huge). DGE is enough to make your man miserable. Give his body some time to heal. I wish we had done that each time Bassy had a reaction...we'd probably be in better shape right now! I agree with your allergist that you should avoid grains and stick to fruits and veggies (Dr. Wood will have us doing that as of October)...but he isn't going to tolerate anything if his body is sore. Then I would call Dr. Wood's office - (410) 955-5883 - and ask for allergist recommendations in your area. I better go grade some crap now...but keep us posted, please!

Coyle Eagan. One Year Old. Doing well on Cow's Milk flavored with juice :) Drinking two bottles of Go&Grow daily. Eating solids better but still have rough days. No More Silent Reflux-that I can hear anyway.. but puking again. Zantac 2ML 2X daily.
Hey there. I understand the retard allergists as you know. As melissa said solids are absolutely not necessary at his age. Hes growing well without them so it should be an issue. i'd wait atleast a month and then go real, real slow. At 10 mo. coyle still has problems but since he does have problems with weight gain we've not been encourage to stop them as of yet. have i seen you on kwfa? i think i spoke to you about this before and i now think that ive actually talked to you over there as well!! lol
Check with your
doctor first!
