well, it happened. My LO CUT two bottom teeth, the teething drops are great BUT now I have a big problem!! she is really hungry, since my daughter was place on the NG tube at 3 months, she has been on 30ml/hr continuous for ever... I went against my better judgment and bought a jar of baby food and gave her itty bitty bites. she loved it and ate it first we started with carrots 1 jar a day it took about 30min to eat the jar. the next day we started with sweet potato and later that evening she vomited? i got scared and wont give her anymore food by mouth? I'm I taking a good precaution? she never spit up or vomited on tube feeding but she did by mouth? should i tell my doctor that i fed her by mouth >? tell me what to do? it's breaking my heart to see her crying and opening her mouth for food but i cant do it!

Josh 12 yrs colic as a baby
Jenna 6 yrs dream baby
Jessica (6/11/07) Silent reflux dx at 3 weeks
Went off meds successfully at 3 mos
Went back on Prevacid 8 mg TID 1/3/08
I definately think you should call your doctor. If you doc has kids he or she will totally understand. I wouldn't assume that the vomiting was from the carrots or sweet potatoes. It could be a virus or just having something solid in the tummy after not doing that for so long. I am sure the eventual goal of the docs is to get her on (at least some) regular food so give them a call and tell them what happened and ask them what you should do next. Maybe an OT could work on solid foods with Verdayne if nothing else. Best of luck! I feel for you! Cristy

Donnessa, mom to Halley born 3/10/07
Reflux (mostly) resolved at 14 months
and Addison born 8/17/09. Currently exclusively bf and on 7.5mg Prevacid
It could be the sweet pot or the carrots causing the vomiting - it was like the Exorcist around here when we gave my dd sweet potatoes (and green beans) the first time - forceful vomit everywhere and lots of screaming. In order to determine which foods cause problems, I would recommend waiting 3 to 5 days (or up to a week) between new food introductions, so you can see what causes a reaction. For now, I would pull both of them and give her a few days to recuperate and then maybe try the carrots again, since she seemed to do ok the day before. You could also try pears, since they are pretty easy to tolerate. It could also be the teething that is causing the vomit (because of all the extra saliva). Don't beat yourself up - we've all been in your much of this is trial and error and you don't know until you try! Hope she feels better soon!!

This is our dd, Alessandra. Dx with GER 10/07. Ran the gamut with meds and now done with them (crossed fingers). Using magnesium, probiotics and prebiotic supplements. With the exception of teething and general sassy attitude, all is well now. They really CAN grow out of it!
Just a thought, but it could be that you introduced 2 foods within 2 days...sometimes they can't handle it. I've always followed a 7 day rule for each new food to check for intolerances or allergies.

Never hurts to check with the MD, especially since she's tube fed for formula.

HUGS to you for doing your best for your girl!!!

mom to Mila 2-20-2007
and Robby 4-22-2004
Mila is on Peptamen JR 30 cal by NG tube. Open Heart Surgery 2/08/08. Captopril, Zantac, Losec, Lasix.
Is she NPO? I would seriously, seriously hesitate to orally feed her without talking to a doc if she doesn't bottle, etc.

Ditto on asking the doc before trying any oral feeds, and also wait 4 days or so between introducing new foods. You may want to give her a teether or something in case she is just wanting to bite, or even a baby safe feeder (the mesh bags) with a frozen banana or something in it for some taste.
Check with your
doctor first!
