So does Elyse win?
....for the least amount of formula in a 24 hour period? 3.5 oz at 5 am and 2 oz at bedtime. (and about 4 oz of water/juice during the day, total). I want to blame it on teething. I know this is not enough fluid intake but we try everything we can think of. We offer cups and bottles and straws and dift sippies, different juices, water, formula, snow cones, crushed ice, popsicles (which she ate one time last week and since then throws them on the floor).

Not sure what to do next. I am going to go buy some whole milk tomorrow. She has never had it, maybe she will drink that, who knows? I am grasping at straws here. Her cousin will down a cup of water or juice in 5 minutes and she takes a sip (or not) and throws the cup or turns it upside down and watches it drip out....today she hit her bottle away with such force it went across the room.

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
Well Sharon, I just don't know. I can't imagine why she wouldn't want to drink since there's no damage in her esoph. I couldn't remember if you had an endo, but I looked at your page. So sorry!

do you chop up the Popsicles? emi won't eat a whole one but will if i break it in pieces and put them on her highchair table. do you do real fruit ones or the "Popscicle" brand ones? maybe you can try sugar free ones i think they taste better then the sugar ones some days emi will not drink much more then elyse and the next she will be a fish. maybe try mylanta then offer a sippie?? hmm.... i hope this is just a 1 day thing and not a trend. she is so much like emi in regards to sippies the turning it upside down thing is exactly her lol

I'm sorry she isn't drinking. I put chunks of freezies in a mesh bag feeder for Nolan so he isn't holding on the the cold chunks or making a huge mess. Is she still eating a lot of fruit. That helps keep her hydrated. Have you tried smoothies made with frozen fruit and juice and I add yogurt. I bet you could even add milk to it to help get some milk in her. Nolan goobles that up. These are just some suggestions. I know you have probably tried everything. I really hope this is just a short lived phase.

Sharon, I'm so sorry she still isn't drinking much. In some ways I can relate. I took Rory out to visit my brother on Friday. She drank 6oz at 8 am before we left and didn't have another drop until 4pm when we got home. BUT she drank 6 oz at 4pm, and 8oz and bedtime, PLUS she had 4 oz at 4am that morning. On a normal AT HOME day, she will almost always drink 26oz. That being said, we were supposed to go to the beach after lunch and because it was sooooo hot I decided not to go, because by 2pm she'd not had anything to drink for 6 hours. My brother's friends made this comment: "If it were a normal baby I'd think you were being overly concerned but given Rory's history I can see why you don't want to go.....she's NOT going to drink until you get home". So, I say to you......Given E's history, and knowing that this has been ongoing for a time, EVEN if it's teeth, if I were in your shoes, I would take her in to be checked out. My thought is that even if hydration isn't an issue, many more days of 6oz days and she's going to start dropping weight. Because she's been through so much, she COULD have an infection or something and not complain about it, kwim? Rory's older and they want her drinking 24+ oz a day to maintain her weight. Maybe I'm just a worry wort, but if Rory had two consecutive days of less than 10oz, I'd be in the office or the hospital......only because of the eating history. I hope she picks back up, but teeth can take forever to come in. I'm sorry you are dealing with this. :( HUGS

Donnessa, mom to Halley born 3/10/07
Reflux (mostly) resolved at 14 months
and Addison born 8/17/09. Currently exclusively bf and on 7.5mg Prevacid
I'm sorry she's drinking so little. We've dealt with this a couple of times when Halley has had a sore throat. Hopefully she's doing a little better today. I see you've tried a lot of cold things - have you tried warming her drinks up?

Tracey, mom to Katie diagnosed with GERD at 3 week.
Sorry!!! We know what you are going through as we have been through this before too. We took her in to urgent care as she hadn't had more than 10 oz. in three days and because she had 1 little crusty boogey in her nose the dr. said she couldn't breathe. Arguing that she hasn't had a cold did no good; three scary days later she ate again. Katie likes the little ice pieces like you get at Sonic or Sam's Club because they are bite sized for her mouth. I can't tell you the number of different cups/straws/sippies we have tried!!! They all will usually only work once too!

Sarah
mom to Mila 2-20-2007
and Robby 4-22-2004
Mila is on Peptamen JR 30 cal by NG tube. Open Heart Surgery 2/08/08. Captopril, Zantac, Losec, Lasix.
I'm sorry, Sharon, but Mila wins - she went a whole day on just 3 oz once !!! That being said ( teasingly ) , this part is serious.. If Elsye weighs anywhere near what Mila weighs ( 20 lbs ) she needs AT LEAST 20 ounces of fluid per day to stay hydrated long term... if she doesn't take at LEAST 20 ounces today, I think you'll need to take her in to be evaluated. I'm so sorry... just my 2 cents.

Jennifer - 1st time mom. Lauren (6/1/07) diagnosed 9/07 with GER at 3 1/2 months. Prevacid 7.5 mg in the am. Currently drinking whole milk and eating great!!
No longer aspirating! Yippee!
Picture: Why would Lauren play with the hundreds of dollars worth of toys scattered in my living room?!?! When she could play in a box! Estimated move date: Oct. 3rd!
We actually JUST had this conversation at the GI's office last week and were told the same thing as Sarah - Minimum of 20 oz per day. I would be very concerned if I were you too :( That is just not enough. Lauren has done soooo much better with a sippy cup than she did with the bottle. Dh and I were just noticing that she'll drink 3 sippy's of milk by noon (apx. 18 oz)! There were many, many days when I could get that much in her all day long by bottle. Is she still getting thickened liquids? If so, does she still need it thick? Lauren's intake also went up a ton once she didn't have to have it so darn thick. I hope she's drinking better for you today!

Thanks for the ideas/concern. We are doing better today, at 5 oz formula and 3 oz juice/water (it is 2pm). She acts fine, not like she is in pain or anything. But like michelle said, she has been in so much pain in her life that something like an ear infection might not cause her to act in pain. I will see how she does today and determine whether to call the pedi or GI. This has been going on for a long time. She has not drank 20 oz in months, actually she never averaged that much in a day, she was about 16 a day for a long time and then dropped to 9 oz on vacation and since then we have had these issues again. My mom brought up a point though....with out friend dying, we are wondering if she is picking up on all the stress, and having other people baby sitting instead of grandma, etc. Maybe she is feeling the stress. I know a lot of you would be way more worried than I am at this point, I think it goes back to the fact that we have been thru so much hell with her that if she is acting okay, we don't worry much.

Coyle Eagan. One Year Old. Doing well on Cow's Milk flavored with juice :) Drinking two bottles of Go&Grow daily. Eating solids better but still have rough days. No More Silent Reflux-that I can hear anyway.. but puking again. Zantac 2ML 2X daily.
our lowest was 12 ounces in one day and that was during the week that coyle was cutting 3 teeth and had a cold. that being said-he's been refusing the bottle and solids on and off again since he's cutting two more teeth.

how is her food otherwise? if she is eating fruits/veggies she is getting hydration from those foods as well. many doctors say 16-24 ounces of formula (or milk if you are at that point) a day for a toddler. but, many i know do not drink that much and others drink wayyy more.

this may be an independence issue along with the teething.

Oh Sharon, I am sorry to read how your day has been going. I hope she has had more as the day has gone on. Can she eat watermelon? There is a ton of liquid in that. What about plain carbonated water or mixed with juice? Hugs! Libby
