seamus' mama
Seamus was born 7/6/07, one month early with Silent Reflux. Zantac since 3 weeks old, currently taking herbs and probiotics.
O/T boohoo I'm feeling trapped
I am pretty bummed tonight because I am home with a teething monster while my husband is partying down at my best friend's 3 day wedding..Sometimes it is so hard being a mama..I am a free spirit at heart..I spent 8 years following summer around the world, working as a river rafting guide, sleeping under the stars, and hitchhiking wherever I fancied..Life has changed so drastically, in wonderful ways indeed. I am feeling so weird hanging out day after day in the countryside. I feel like a big part of who I am is missing. I am so blessed to be experiencing motherhood. It is a wonderful gift. I am just craving adventure!!

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
Well, I have by no means ever experienced all that but I am kind of in the same boat. I am an impulsive, go here and there when I please person. When Morgan was a baby, we were rarely just sitting at home. We were always somewhere doing something. Now with Mags and the car issues, it's much different. When I do go somewhere, it's with Morgan only. That's fun, but it'd be nice to do stuff as a family sometime.

Any way, I'm so sorry! Maybe soon you can take off on an adventure. Just think, you can teach him all the things you learned.

Oh, I felt Maggie's gums....that could be part of our problem.

Jennifer - 1st time mom. Lauren (6/1/07) diagnosed 9/07 with GER at 3 1/2 months. Prevacid 7.5 mg in the am. Currently drinking whole milk and eating great!!
No longer aspirating! Yippee!
Picture: Why would Lauren play with the hundreds of dollars worth of toys scattered in my living room?!?! When she could play in a box! Estimated move date: Oct. 3rd!
I'm so with you babe! My dh and I would go on 2-3 vacations every year and rarely stayed home on the weekends, even if we just went to a state park and had a picnic and fished. We live near Lake Michigan so I would be at the beach at least 2 days a week in the summer. I too, miss that carefree life of pack a bag and some food and go! I haven't done much since Lauren was born --- especially spur of the moment! I love being a mom, but understand what you are going through too!

I know, I was just joking that everyone needs to tell me about all the fun/adult conversations they get to have so I can live vicariously. :)

I probably shouldn't have whined on this forum last night because there are folks facing way more serious stuff than cabin fever. Thanks for the support anyhow. It has been really weird for me to go from being a river gypsy to a SAHM.

Hey, it's ok! I do it all the time, lol. I forgot---the other day my dh actually said "is it wrong to wish you could just go back to the old life for just a week?" I said "no I do it all the time". We were like Jen said. We used to go fishing all the time. At least once every week. Now we haven't been fishing in about 3yrs. TERRIBLE We used to go to Atlanta ball games once a year. We went to Myrtle Beach a couple times a year. All kinds of stuff. We're lucky to fit in one vacation a year now.

But I will be the first to say--IT GETS BETTER! When Morgan was a little older than Mags, we were able to do more things again. Now we're going through a lull with Mags. When she's older, we'll go again (assuming she will do better in the car).

Melissa - Mommy to Sebastian, born 9/28/07 @ 7 lbs 7 oz and 20.75 in. At docs at 12 months: 27 pounds and 32 in! Good grief! GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Neocate only - no solids - until further notice (drinks and loves water, too). Loves his doggie, our rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Louise, even though he is allergic to her. Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(
Going from having all that autonomy to having a reflux baby is tough, I know. I have felt like I have missed out on the last year. Half the time, I don't even know what day it is. No more traveling - we used to go somewhere big every year (Paris, Hawaii, Londom, Rome, etc) and to NYC a few times each year, too...along with trips to the local beach 2 hours away. Now we do nothing. Even fitting in a 30-minute run is a struggle, so I know how hard this is.

It doesn't make you a bad mother to wish you could enjoy some freedom once in a while...especially given that you have had no sleep in a year! It actually makes you a good mother. Now I am not one to talk because I seriously need to take my own advice, but can you start getting out even for a few hours a wekk without the baby? Even trips to Target are like gold for me right now. I'd faint from happiness if I actually got to see a move in the theater...haven't in a YEAR.

I think once you get Seamus sleeping you will be able to do a lot more then you can now. Even though Sebastian's sleep is in the toilet right now, we can still do way more with him than we could three months ago. And it gets better every week, although we do have our setbacks. Like right now, for instance.

Can you do a small trip with your family? I never thought we would e able to vacation with Sebastian, but we actually took a successful (well, it was successful until the state caught fire) trip tto 6-hour-away North Carolina. He did so much better than we thought. I found that as long as you try to keep them on their schedules, traveling can work.

I feel so bad that you feel isolated and off kilter right now. Having this huge life change is not something that is that easy to adjust to, I see.

Maybe start with pouring yourself some wine. (Can you drink wine right now?) Hope you feel better soon.
