Tracey, mom to Katie diagnosed with GERD at 3 week.
Zantac, headaches and ph probe
Thanks for the thoughts on Katie. I didn't give her oatmeal today, just Alimentum and pears and she seems to be having a pretty good day. Maggie's Mom-BTW: what is your first name? I keep trying to find it but can't. The way we figured she was getting migraines is she was at the top dosage 3 times a day for Zantac and she would wake up in a good mood, get her med. and 20-30 minutes later was a screaming, hysterical mess. She was incosolable and would only calm down if I cradled her and lightly stroked her arms, legs and face. After a few days of this I started giving her Tylenol to see if it helped and it did. Then I would stop giving her a dose of Zantac to see how she would behave. She would throw up everything but wasn't the crying mess that she had been. Reading I found out that migraines are one of the side effects of really high dosages of zantac and we would only give it to her at night until they switched her. Not yet convinced that Prevacid doesn't do the same thing as we have tried splitting up her dose and she doesn't seem as "happy" so we are reluctant to try it until we know that it is helping control the acid. We are trying a lower dose of prevacid because she seemed to "outgrow" her dosage of zantac fairly quickly and don't want to max out that dosage too fast. We are silent after Katie goes to bed; we have headphones for TV, a fan in her room and we talk in whispers in the kitchen which is down the hall, in a completely different room. We have some punk teenagers that live behind us and are constantly telling them to be quiet and have been told at 9pm that they are blowing off steam. Last week after Katie had blood drawn twice, seen 3 doctors and was just not having a good day the oldest punk was showing off how loud he could get his bass in his car at 8:52 while Katie was asleep. I ripped off my headphones (watching baby borrowers :) ) and ran out there. He wouldn't roll down the window or open the car door for fear of what I would do to him!! I am 5' tall and in no shape to take him in a fair fight however my kid is sick and I am stressed.......wouldn't need a weapon to tear him apart. He went a street over to test his speakers! LOL! Sharon, Katie has been on meds since 3 weeks and will be 9 months tomorrow and her pedi. kept telling me that the zantac takes time to work and wasn't concerned that she wasn't gaining weight. In fact, I wrote him at one point that she is losing weight as dh and I could see that she was skinnier but not taller. She was no longer outgrowing clothes and was fitting back into clothes that used to be way too small. He kept assuring me that babies lose weight and don't gain weight at the same rate as newborns because they would be 100 lbs. by 1 year and to quit worrying. He kept assuming she was crawling and that is why she was losing weight and even though I kept saying she isn't sitting up let alone crawling he still kept saying it is normal. So, since I don't have a lot of trust with drs. and her meds. it is really hard for me to just wait and see, kwim? You guys did make me think that if I don't trust the waiting that a ph probe would be a better bet than the endoscope because I just have so little faith that anyone has any idea what is going on with her. I know that the prevacid doesn't stop the reflux just the acid and I do know that after months of being in pain she is used to it and almost as a reaction just kinda "grumbles" all day, kwim? Thanks for weighing in!!! Sorry it's so long!!

Just a thought about the noise in the house. My Katie has been using a noise machine since she was very little. We had the same situation except my noise makers were 5 and 3 year old boys. It really saved us. Just a thought.

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
Hey, my name is Melissa :)

Maybe I should give the tylenol thing a try on her "fussy" days and see what happens. I never really think of meds unless she's "sick" but even if she's having teething trouble, the tylenol would help. Thanks for the info!

That's funny about the teens. I've had words with one neighbor before too, lol. All 5' of me.

DH and I always wonder about Elyse and pain...it seems like she was in so much pain for so long with her intestinal issues and reflux and hospitalizations (IVs, blood draws) that we wonder too if she just thinks it is a normal thing to hurt all the time :(:::: Elyse's pedi was not concerned when she was losing/not gaining as a newborn....but her GI and surgeon WERE. I had the pedi pretty upset with me during one visit because I told him the other drs were concerned and I think he thought I was being rude questioning him!

Donnessa, mom to Halley born 3/10/07
Reflux (mostly) resolved at 14 months
and Addison born 8/17/09. Currently exclusively bf and on 7.5mg Prevacid
Tracey, how long has she been on the Prevacid? If it's been more than 4 to 6 weeks, it may be worth seeing if you can go up a little in dosage (maybe to 15 mg). I laughed when I read about the punks behind you - GO GET 'EM GIRL!

BTW, we use a white noise machine in my dd's room. I'm convinced that it's the best invention ever (besides the margarita LOL!)

Mathias Johann - 12/14/05 - GERD, Hypotonia, Sensory Processing Disorder, Dyspraxia; Stopped silently aspirating at 20 months :)
First partial seizure on 7/2; First Endoscopy on 7/16; results: bile reflux gastritis.
New Meds: Zegerid & Carafate
Allergic to dairy
I hope Katie's day has continued to go well. It sounds like she has had a rough go. Just a thought - but have you looked into a new pedi? Mathias' first pedi didn't think anything of the fact that he stopped eating solids at 8 months after he had been doing fine (or what we thought was fine) from 5 months. She also didn't think he had any issues although he was silently aspirating b/c he gained weight really fast. Still irks me. Libby

Melissa - Mommy to Sebastian, born 9/28/07 @ 7 lbs 7 oz and 20.75 in. At docs at 12 months: 27 pounds and 32 in! Good grief! GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Neocate only - no solids - until further notice (drinks and loves water, too). Loves his doggie, our rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Louise, even though he is allergic to her. Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(
Hi Tracey. Oh no! That poor kid. I was wondering about the migraines, too. How awful for all of you. I am glad she is having a good day, though. Pears and Alimentum make for a nice, mild diet. Sebastian was crap on oatmeal, too. I don't know why...except that he is allergic to wheat and there was probably cross contamination.

Larry (my hubby) and I have to be quiet at night, too! I wish I had listened to my sister and just een loud as crap since day one so Bassy would get used to it, but NO. We use white noise in his room (used to run a hair dryer when we were in there!) ...it seems to help. But we also watch movies on my little laptop instead of our giant flatscreen TV (our one nonbaby splurge! We look like paupers, but Sebastian is equipped like a king!) because we fear will wake him. That sucks.

Good for you for threatening to stick it to your lame neighbors!!
Check with your
doctor first!
