Kathryn, Pager Volunteer and mommy to Emily Mia 02/04/07. 3 years old with GERD. 30mg Prevacid and Pepcid AC. Mylanta needed for flares. Failed prilosec med switch. Tried and failed many med weans but GERD and pain are well controlled. Functional constipation. Reoccurring SBBO. Suspected IBD or autoimmune disease. Resolved issues: MSPI, CSID (acquired), Stage 2 kidney reflux, Chronic diarrhea.
Audrey Meadow 06/20/08. born 34/35 weeks. Still b/f and eats everything! ftt and chronic constipation.
pedi visit with the girls
well good news is emi does not have an ear infection or sore throat or anything visibly wrong with her except her tummy was a bit distended and sounded gurgerly the doc said. He really thinks it is tummy pains of her CSID that is waking her up at night and causing her to be ornery and temperamental during the day. He thinks she is dropping foods b/c of it.

BUT get this, she is a nice rolly pollie 26lbs! he was very concerned about the mucus in her stools but since it stopped there really is nothing he can do about it now. and on the whole scope of things; you know how drs are- she's not loosing weight so hes not going to go out of his way to do anything (not saying that in a bad way, just that he dosen't think intervention is warranted).

he too thinks we should give mineral oil a try and really does not think that emily has a vaso-vagel nerve response and is reluctant to give us a referral to the pedi neurologist, he said next month at her visit if she is still showing symptoms then he may reconsider. (not a bad thing, i didn't really want to go to another dr)

And Audrey my little show stopper, spit up on the nurse lol she too has gained weight and is a plump 8 lbs. I have been so consumed with emily's tummy i totally neglected to remember that A. poops too and when the nurse asked me when the last time she pooped was and I said Sunday she was concerned, then i realized today is thursday! I don't know how i let that get past me! but the pedi thinks that most of her new gained weight is poop stuck in her belly. soooo suppository tonight if manual stimulation does not work :(

Dr also told me he thinks in his opinion that she DOES have reflux, but all babies do- he does not think A has ACID reflux... yet. just because emily was and is bad refluxer he does not want to put her on meds to prevent AR damage b/c he is not convinced she is in pain from it. He also said that b/c i was hesitant about it, it was more me being cautious b/c of emily and A is not Emily, which i know i just need to get over...

oh and emily is being really cute today, she learned the words "step", "up" and "down" so now she narrates herself and everything she does lol

Mom (Danie) to Adam (9-4-03) & Nate (3-7-07) Nate was diagnosed with silent AR at 2 months old. He was on neocate, prevacid 30mg per day and couldn't start solids till he was almost 8 months old. He started cow's milk at 14 months and is currently off all meds!! So far so good :) PIC: Disney trip 2008. Nate didn't know Piglet was there, he didn't like the characters too much.
Emi is almost caught up to Nate...he was almost 28lbs a few weeks ago, lol. Hopefully Audrey will go on her own so you don't have to do the suppository! Thanks for the update Kat :)

Wow, 26lbs is fabulous!! I'm sorry she is still not feeling the best, though, tummy wise. Poor kiddo. I think it's good that you are giving Audrey a little more time to adjust to the world before going the medication route. Keep hope that she's just a normal spitty baby. :) I sure hope she is!!! Isn't so cool the babies are talking!!! I am having the time of my life with Rory lately...the stuff she says. :) HUGS...hope you're getting some rest.

Sharon, Mom to Elyse, 17 mos (15 mos adjusted-preemie). Zantac/Elecare. History of: Respiratory Distress Syndrome with ventilation/CPAP/cannula, tpn, n/g tube, PDA, jaundice, apnea, bradycardia/tachycardia, severe anemia, blood transfusion, reflux, Sandifer's Syndrome, intestinal malrotation, hemangiomas, MSPI, feeding issues. ICU inpatient 53 days! 2 surgeries, 2 UGIs, barium enema, pH probe, endoscopy. Developmentally on target now! PIC: Yobaby Beard
Good to hear that A may have normal reflux. i def would not be putting her on meds if she is not in pain. I am a little too experienced with infant suppositories....if you haven't used them before, I recommend doing it in the bathtub! It's a lot easier to clean up the mess if it shoots out like Elyse used to do! TMI TMI

Donnessa, mom to Halley born 3/10/07
Reflux (mostly) resolved at 14 months
and Addison born 8/17/09. Currently exclusively bf and on 7.5mg Prevacid
Sounds like a good visit, all in all. I'm glad that Emi seems to be thriving - that's quite a feat and you should be very proud of the job you're doing. I agree that waiting on the meds for Audrey is a good idea, if you don't think she's uncomfortable. Just trust your mommy instinct. Don't worry about stuff getting past you...I can't keep up and I only have ONE! Take care :-)
