Josh 12 yrs colic as a baby
Jenna 6 yrs dream baby
Jessica (6/11/07) Silent reflux dx at 3 weeks
Went off meds successfully at 3 mos
Went back on Prevacid 8 mg TID 1/3/08
Weaning prevacid again
Well Jessie has been off Prevacid for 48 hours and this afternoon she spit up a little bit. It makes me nervous. She has a tiny rash on her tummy though so maybe it's "just" a virus. I know Prevacid doens't keep you from spitting up but I swear every time I take Jess off of it she starts spitting up acidy stuff. So the spit up today makes me nervous she won't get off of it yet. But I'm going to give it a little longer because she's happy. What do you all think? Cristy

Oh, this is a scary time. It took us a few tries before it took. I think you should keep up the weaning and just watch for other signs. Like you said, vomit doesn't have to be a bad sign.

I agree with you that even though it isn't supposed to stop vomiting, I would notice an increase when we were weaning. I wish they'd do a study on why that is!

Good Luck and keep us updated. ~Ronya

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
I'd give it a few days. If the spitting up increases and she seems to be hurting, I'd be concerned.

Mom (Danie) to Adam (9-4-03) & Nate (3-7-07) Nate was diagnosed with silent AR at 2 months old. He was on neocate, prevacid 30mg per day and couldn't start solids till he was almost 8 months old. He started cow's milk at 14 months and is currently off all meds!! So far so good :) PIC: Disney trip 2008. Nate didn't know Piglet was there, he didn't like the characters too much.
I'd keep it up too...it is such an up and down process. We got thru the "hump" and it was all good. I got Nate off the prevacid completely in about 3 weeks total. We did have to start up the pepcid at night tho...it was just a small dose and we only needed it for about 3 weeks. I am crossing my fingers!! It was good to hear from you...take care :)

Coyle Eagan. One Year Old. Doing well on Cow's Milk flavored with juice :) Drinking two bottles of Go&Grow daily. Eating solids better but still have rough days. No More Silent Reflux-that I can hear anyway.. but puking again. Zantac 2ML 2X daily.
huh. i wonder why the spit-up gets worse. for us, coyle spits up less when i try and wean because he holds it in even more. i hope it isn't a bad sign!

Dd (7) w/ SPD (sensory processing disorder), hypotonia, GERD, since birth. Previous PT, OT, Early Intervention, special ed, feeding clinic, feeding therapy from 2-3. Reflux meds since 2. Overcame severe feeding challenges, dysphagia, oral aversions, anxiety disorder. Weaned from reflux meds @ 6 1/2 yrs. A true miracle!! Ds (4) Prevacid 30mg, split am/pm; upcoming endoscopy. Ds (9 mos.), nursing, pureed foods, Zantac 1.2 mL 2x/day.
Do you know about the rebound effect? If you quit cold turkey, the stomach can overcompensate and produce even more acid. It's best to wean gradually (I weaned my dd over a period of about 2 mos), but maybe you already did that. Even with gradually weaning like we did, we still had to ride out a couple of rough days here and there but eventually her body was able to adjust. But if not, it's ok to go back on the med too.
