Melissa - Mommy to Sebastian, born 9/28/07 @ 7 lbs 7 oz and 20.75 in. At docs at 12 months: 27 pounds and 32 in! Good grief! GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Neocate only - no solids - until further notice (drinks and loves water, too). Loves his doggie, our rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Louise, even though he is allergic to her. Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(
Explosive gas? I don't understand!
I am not kidding - since he started solids, Sebastian has woken up around 4 a.m. with EXPLOSIVE gas. It's always the same - I pick him up, he pulls his knees up, and then he extends his body forcefully, like he is turning into a plank. After a few of these (while wailing), he lets out some echoing toots. Last night, he kept going and going and going until I gave him Mylanta (his breath was also FOUL - so the reflux is still going, I see). I don't know what to do! I thought it was just certain foods and now we are back to just his "safe" foods - Neocate, pears, and sweet potatoes. He is pooping regularly again thanks to Miralax (he stopped for a while last week). Mylicon has never worked for us. What could be the source of this? I know al babies get gas, but this seems like some serious abdominal cramping. It's not at ALL like when he used to get the toots when he was very young...

Had you introduced a new solid? Maybe is was just causing him gas. Poor baby-and mommy!

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
Like Jen said, I can't think of anything unless you tried a new food. I'm sorry! If there's nothing new, I'd give the ped a call. It doesn't make sense that he'd have that trouble with no new foods.

Coyle Eagan. One Year Old. Doing well on Cow's Milk flavored with juice :) Drinking two bottles of Go&Grow daily. Eating solids better but still have rough days. No More Silent Reflux-that I can hear anyway.. but puking again. Zantac 2ML 2X daily.
maybe it is the act of pulling his knees up and getting into plank position that is causing the gas-not the other way around. kwim. in our case, when coyle gets po*d or is overtired he wails, scrunches, or throws his head back. sometimes, not always, it causes gas. i know you've not started new solids so i'm not thinking it is those.. esp. since he's not eating broc or cauliflower or any other typical *gassy* food. i dont know-whaddya think?

Oh - I forgot - he hasn't had anything new in about two weeks (except for a tiny piece of watermelon three days ago. But he is negative to melon)

Mom to Jasmine aka: Jazz 01/24/2007
Dx with silent reflux at 8 months
FPIES, DGE, MSPI. Recently diagnosed with EC (Eosin. colitis and now Primary immune deficiency disease.
Also mom to Nathan. born Jan.20th, 2009, MPI . so far dx with reflux and has an extremely sensitibe GI system. Also dx with primary immune deficiency disease.
Poor baby! If he is crying a lot then he'll definately take in lots of air. Since Jasmine did this also, I would have to say that the reflux is probably causing a lot of gas itself. When the GI has a high gastric/gastrin content, in other words very acidic, this in itself causes gas to form. The mylanta usually is very basic so it would neutralize the acid and stop the gas formation.............................I am not a doctor, I am a nurse, but this is just my opinion from my experiences. I hope they get him on a med that works. HTH
