Melissa - Mommy to Sebastian, born 9/28/07 @ 7 lbs 7 oz and 20.75 in. At docs at 12 months: 27 pounds and 32 in! Good grief! GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Neocate only - no solids - until further notice (drinks and loves water, too). Loves his doggie, our rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Louise, even though he is allergic to her. Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(

Hi! I cannot remember for the life of me if your appt wason the 9th or the 10th but either way, I think it passed. How did it go? Update us, PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ok, can't find the funeral home so i have time to post now.

basically, the top 8 came up negative-no reaction. the control histamine was huge so the allergist kept saying how the test confirms that he does not have a "food allergy". he then asked me again how much yogurt i had given him. i said the tip of a soup spoon. no more. and i did not give him anythign else that day. ALSO, the same reaction happened when i mixed in one scoop of Good start-regular into his bottle @ 6 mo. i told him 2 hrs after he woke up from a nap projectile vomiting; stomach cramps; crying in pain; puking for hours; diarrhea for days following. he's like, well that small amount shouldn't cause that kind of reaction. maybe it wasn't the yogurt. WTH!!! I'm so freakin tired of people telling me that i don't know what caused this reaction. it was a CLASSIC FPIES reaction Melissa! seriously. what, he had the flu for 5 hours and then was fine? my husband even then asked well did you feel fine afterward? the idiot was home for lunch that day! he knew i was fine. and, he saw the baby who was sooooo sick. i had to reconvince dh that i know 100% positively know that it was the yogurt. he says..can't be 100% sure. whatever!

at the end of the meeting the allergist says, however, that it would be a good idea to wait on a food challenge until 18 mo-maybe even 2 years. soo, do you believe he has issues with dairy or not? i also asked about blood testing but he said that the skin test was 100% the best test around. ok, whatever dude.

basically, he thinks i'm an idiot who doesn't know the diff between IGE mediated responses and IGG mediated. IGG mediated responses are food allergies! also, skin testing is not fool-proof. you can have false-postives and false-negatives. so, what am i supposed to do? we see GI (the head GI @ Motts) the 21st. I suppose I could discuss FPIES with him and see if he knows about it. whatever the case, i know that kids don't need dairy even though the dairy industry has propogated this mis-truth. i just want to know our limitations here. that is, whether or not i can bake with milk products-ya know???

do you think i should do a IOHC with different products @ a year? what is your advice?

how is bassy this evening?

God, Kelly, I am so sorry. How horrible. I know you were hoping for some answers.

Did you jet to Maryland see our first allergist or something? Your allergist sounds like a moron. He obviously is even second-guessing his own crackpot advice by telling you to avoid dairy.

I'm no doctor (but apparently, neither is your allergist), but it DOES sound like FPIES to me. It sounds like Sebastian and his bananas, although that lasted a full week and began with hives (that part was oral allergy syndrome...nothing like a good 'ole double allergic reaction for your infant).

ANYONE will tell you that the skin test can be completely inaccurate for kids under three!!! Where did he get his medical degree - must have been one of those you can buy for 50 bucks from a link in the junk messages you get via email. Sebastian tested negative to everything but egg on the skin test, and look at his LONG list of IgE allergies - twice confirmed. The thing that sucks, though, is how IGG don't show up on the tests. Our allergist (the one who fired us but whom I still talk to at least twice a week as we continue to try and find the hidden answer about what is wrong with my son) says to go by symptoms, not tests! He has an ANAPHYLACTIC EGG ALLERGY THAT HAS NEVER, EVER SHOWN UP ON ANY TEST.

Where do you live again? I will ask Dr. Bacon (the allergist whom I will still talk to even after we see Dr. Wood next month) for some other docs to try. He gave me plenty for Rissaroo, and she is in Utah! DEFINITELY get a second opinion.

How is Coy doing now?

Sebastian is doing better. His reflux is still out of whack (after a blissful two months of seemingly reflux-freeness), and he is refusing ALL solids, but he is getting TALL again. I swear, he grew this week. Our stupid GI won't call us back - the nurse promised me a call Thursday, and here it is Saturday - so I am pretty upset. Nothing like hearing your kid;s insides are a wreck and then hearing, well, nothing. He is super constipated again, too, even though I haven't lightened up on his Miralax lately. I guess because he isn't eating anything else, really?

Sigh. I just need a nap.

the boob did his residency @ National Jewish. They are #1 in Allergy and Immunology. The hospital's position is that prick testing is more reliable than blood. however, the website also states that sometimes food challeges are the only way to diagnose a food allergy. apparently, this science is like tomato verses tamato... whatever. i'm assumign that he was tryign to tell me that coy doesn't have oral allergy syndrome and since he figured me an uneducated retard w/o a medical degree or experience in allergy he didn't want to discuss IGG with me. I figure, I'm paying you dude... don't you have the time to have an intelligent conversation with me? I've done enough research to understand this stuff. I JUST WANT A MEDICAL PERSON TO AGREE WITH ME SO MY FRIEND AND FAMILY WILL BELIEVE... and, i can't find one! how can he agree we shouldn't touch milk but then tell me there is no allergy??? crack pot.

yes, symptoms can be 100% confirmed. so, what does he want? a IOHC so he can believe me that it was the yogurt? i suppose i could do that and then jen could get her volume puking video! lol.

we live in SE Michigan. I'd love for a referral.

he's doing ok. better now that we can give him the zantac again. still silent refluxing often and puking on occasion. solids aren't going well with us either, i'm afraid, but his eye teeth are coming in so i'm sure that is the culprit. sebastian have those yet? what's up with these kids and teeth???

girl, you take a nap. i take one almost every day now. i've learned to work them in as i'm a better mom with them.

i can't believe they haven't called you yet. blow up their phone on monday so they can love you some more! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
