How Do You Know - Doctor Related
Do you ever see signs and/or symptoms that look like an issue but you aren't sure are one? My youngest son had some formula issues. It took us forever to figure out which one would work for him. Finally, after figuring out a lactose issue, and so on we settled on Nutramigen. This has been going well for quite a while now, thinking 6 or so weeks. Yesterday was horrible! He has not been this bad in a very long time. He wouldn't nap, wanted to be held all day, screamed, arched his back a lot and ate a lot. Now, this could be lots of things. This is where it gets confusing. He has sensory issues. This didn't feel sensory related to me. But, I am no doctor. So I could be missing the smaller things. It could be reflux related, though he never refluxed or had that nasty nose he gets when he refluxes into his nose. This was EXACTLY like when we had formula issues. But I can't understand why he would suddenly not be able to tolerate a formula that's been working so well for almost 2 months. I don't want to take him into the doctor and just say, "well, I don't know!" I am going to watch him today, but if it's formula issues, what other options do we have since he can't have a regular formula, can't have a lactose formula (needs that removed) and so on? Are there other options if this continues?

Yes, he's on Prevacid. It was upped a few weeks ago and has been wonderful. This doesn't feel like reflux, but.... as I said I am not a doctor. I hate these odd things that you know something isn't right, but you have no clue and no idea if it's a major thing that needs a doctor or not.

This is our dd, Alessandra. Dx with GER 10/07. Ran the gamut with meds and now done with them (crossed fingers). Using magnesium, probiotics and prebiotic supplements. With the exception of teething and general sassy attitude, all is well now. They really CAN grow out of it!
Just a thought, but he may also need an H2 blocker in addition to the PPI. Never hurts to ask the MD when you don't know though. And these kids have good and bad days, even on meds. Maybe teething? I dunno - had a nasty night ourselves last night, so I'm not thinking very clearly.

OK, today seemed good. But then this afternoon happened and all puke broke loose. Oh my, the reflux. I wish this hadn't happened on a Friday. Why can't these things happen on a Monday when you have a few days to get in with the doctor? What is an H2 blocker?

Last night got even worse. He was in our bed and refluxed all over my side a few times. I am not sure why he suddenly has this increase. The doctor is closed so I am going to have to wait until Tuesday (my older son has an allergist appointment on Monday). Hoping it's better by then. I haven't seen any signs of illness (which he sometimes gets an increase with ear infections). But I am keeping a close eye on him with that.
Check with your
doctor first!
