Puking on Video? HELP.
Ok everyone, here is an interesting question for you.... Have any of you gotten video of your kids with reflux puking? We are looking for a way to raise awareness about reflux and are hoping to do a "puking collage" for YouTube. The shock value should get quiet a few hits and hopefully generate some awareness for reflux.

If you would be interested in helping us with this project please let me know as soon as possible. We will need all entries in by September 1st in order to have the finished product done before Tummy Ache Awareness Day.

Thanks in advance for your help. Raising awareness for reflux will help not only our own refluxers but tons of other parents who may also need the help and support but don't know where to get it. If you have friends or family members with reflux video please ask them if they would be willing to help as well.

If you have any questions feel free to e-mail me at rackleyfive@cox.net or Beth at gergroup@aol.com

THANKS and start digging up video!!! ;)

mom2halleyann
Donnessa, mom to Halley born 3/10/07
Reflux (mostly) resolved at 14 months
and Addison born 8/17/09. Currently exclusively bf and on 7.5mg Prevacid
You would think that we would - we sure saw enough of it, but I think I was always too busy trying to catch it before it made it onto the carpet, new clothes, neighbor lady, etc :-). Love the idea, though - there definitely needs to be some increased awareness. I got so tired of people saying "all babies spit up" - they usually stopped saying that if they after caught a glimpse of my little geyser spewing forth...

Before, when Q was about six months old and I moved back in with my husband, I had video of it because our previous doctor didn't think it was that bad. BUT! It was. Unfortunately I no longer have the video of it. *sigh* It was a good one too. Projectile vomitting, out the nose and her turning blue and screaming bloody murder. EEEEKK!!!! Did I just say that it was "good"??? j/k, I just think it would have been a good one for the shock value for your video. Q no longer refluxes, thank God! I wish I could help you out. -Sarah

maggiemom
Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
this is negative---I'm not sure what kind of attention it would get. There's loads of these videos on America's Funniest Videos every time I happen to scan by it. For some reason a lot of people think it's funny to see a baby throw up. I guess it didn't bother me as much before, but now I just don't see any humor in it.

I guess maybe put in context with reflux information it might get a different reaction. Maybe it would actually make people see that it's not funny.

Jessica, Mommy to Jedd, severe reflux, severe food and oral aversions, Finally G tube free!!! VSD repair 4-24-07 (open heart surgery), hypospadias, repaired 3 times and Ear tubes Visit Jedd at his CB site: www.caringbridge.org/visit/jedd
We don't have a video camera soo we never got any video of Jedd at his worst. I think it would be a good idea though. It would raise awarness to the actually "PAIN" these children go through. I am soooo sooo sick of hearing but it's only heartburn......:(

katiesmommy
Tracey, mom to Katie diagnosed with GERD at 3 week.
I get sick of hearing from almost every adult that they get acid reflux too; as if she is getting it from all of the alcohol and tabasco that we have put in her bottle while she is out too late partying! My favorite is when people who have only known of a baby with refux advise the Similac AR because it worked for their friends baby. I refrain from sarcastically telling them that in the 8+ months of dealing with this we have heard of Similac AR and if we thought it would make her better in spite of Zantac, elevating her, only giving her easy foods to eat and seeing a specialist who wants to perform tests on such a small being we would have gone that route! It would be nice to not spend more money on formula than a bottle of good wine but we just love to waste our money on hypoallergenic formula when we could spend a lot less and Katie would feel better!! Was I ranting???

Thanks for your help anyway... If you know of anyone who might have some let me know. I also didn't catch it on video.... Mainly too busy to tape when in the middle of the reflux stuff. :( Wish I had it now. I think it would shock people into paying attention. The videos in YouTube that get the most hits are definitely the shocking ones. I would love any ideas you might have along these lines too, shoot me an e-mail if you guys think of something. THANKS!

Puking by non-refluxers?
I think those of us with "problem" pukers never had a spare moment to grab a camera. Maybe what we need to do is ask people with small babies who just puke occasionally. They might not witness as much puking as we did, but they were more likely to have a camera on hand. Maybe we can make it into a contest with some small prizes for submitting videos. Then we can all send the announcement to people with small children who don't have reflux. The point of this video is to be gross and entertaining for 2 minutes and then tack on 15 seconds of education at the end. We love to do a real educational video some day but that is a different project. This is purely publicity for National Tummy Ache Awareness Day. Can anybody think of a good prize? Maybe child-size t-shirts for the first 20 people who send videos? Do any of you have t-shirt design ideas?
